We initially tried the nearby cafe, but it felt cramped and we only saw gluten products on their menu. Service was slow. So we came to this pub, hungry and ready to warm up. Initially it looked empty, we tried the right hand door. Then we tried the left hand door, and were warmly greeted by lovely welcoming bar staff, a wood burning stove and a great menu full of homemade dishes. Rob ordered the Hunter’s chicken and chips, and I ordered a baked potato with beef and salad. Both were absolutely delicious. We can deffo recommend the chips! The chef checked in to ask how the meal was, and we were genuinely happy with the quality and price. Thanks very much. Quirky decorations include half a dalek too!

They cater very well for drivers with a good selection of better quality alcohol beers, the designated driver will be well looked after.

Really good service, lady behind the bar very good, but a cheese baguette £7 and a bowl of chips £4.50 , I know the cost of living crisis is squeezing everyone, but it was standard. For £23 I want to be wowed for 2 baguette and chips,it was just standard but the price wowed me!

Excellent Sunday lunch. Great location at Trent Lock on the Erewash canal. Quirky, interesting historic pub, welcoming friendly staff. Real ales, great value, generous proportioned food, choice of pork, beef, lamb or vegetarian. Well worth a visit. If you have mobility needs, check ahead, regular parking is a short walk away, but it is possible to drop off outside. The pub is accessible via a ramp.

Stopped for liquid refreshments after a lovely 4 mile circular walk long the canal and Attenborough Nature Reserve. Fabulous location and great selection of beers. Shipstones Gold Star and Welbeck Abbey Harley were excellent.
