I took my 2017 XC60 to David Pengelly's today for service and MOT. I'm very impressed. They did what needed doing, no 'upselling' like you get at mdin dealers. Honest work and a fair price. I won't be taking my Volvo anywhere else in future.

Called in at David Pengelly Autos this morning with a minor issue. As always Lauren was courteous and professional and had the issue resolved and me on my way in 15 minutes. Wouldn’t take my cars anywhere else.

I chose this garage despite the considerable distance (around 60 miles) because they advertise themselves as Volvo specialists. Unfortunately, my experience on 8 October completely changed that opinion. I booked a gearbox oil change and a Haldex system oil change for my second-generation Volvo XC60. After the service, while driving on the motorway, I noticed a whining noise coming from the rear axle, especially when the rear drive was engaging under acceleration. I contacted the garage, and the receptionist said that such a noise was not normal and offered that I could return so they could take a look. I decided to turn back and drive another 60 miles to let them inspect the issue. After reconnecting the car to diagnostic equipment, 11 fault codes appeared, which surprised me because the vehicle had previously been completely fault-free (a prior VIDA scan showed no issues). The report indicated that the errors were related to communication between control modules (ECU / CAN-Bus network). At that point, I was told that the cause could be the flushing of the old oil or — more likely — “worn clutch plates in the Haldex coupling.” I found this diagnosis unlikely, as there had never been any symptoms related to the AWD system before. The receptionist promised to consult with a specialist and call me back the next day to discuss the next steps. Several days passed, and I received no response. Due to the lack of follow-up, I visited an independent mechanic, who, after reviewing the fault and the situation, confirmed that with a very high degree of probability, the Haldex oil change procedure had been carried out incorrectly. After performing the correct procedure, the problem disappeared completely, and all communication faults cleared and did not return. In summary – the garage that advertises itself as a Volvo specialist made a service error, failed to take responsibility, and I ended up losing time, money, and trust. Such an approach to customers is simply unacceptable. EDIT Special For David Pengelly !!! Below, I would like once again, and for the last time to address several key points, as I have the impression that some facts have been overlooked or interpreted differently than they actually occurred. 1. The car was not test-driven immediately after the Haldex clutch oil change. The first test drive took place only after my phone call, during which I reported a concerning noise (a high-pitched whine) following the pickup of the car. It was only then—after I turned back from my route and returned to the workshop—that we went for a test drive together, during which the issue was clearly noticeable. 2. The diagnosis of “worn Haldex clutch plates” raised doubts from the very beginning, because prior to the service the car showed absolutely no symptoms suggesting such a problem. The 4x4 system engaged correctly, there were no error codes, and no irregularities whatsoever. 3. I have already sent you a detailed explanation regarding the error codes in my previous email (following our one-hour phone conversation). 4. I also informed you that I would be contacting the mechanic who is currently abroad, and that I will be able to speak with him only on November 26th. I am very disappointed with the entire handling of this matter and the way it is being resolved. I have the impression that the only argument the workshop continues to rely on is: “we performed everything correctly and according to procedure.” Unfortunately, the facts indicate otherwise. Attached you will find, once again, the complete chronology of events and explanations you have already received. Please consider this message as the final summary of my position on this issue. I am attaching the full documentation exactly as it was sent to you by email, without any omissions, so that everyone involved can draw their own conclusions.

Brilliant garage. I took my old Saab to David pengally because a previous garage couldn't fix the problem. Within a few days,I received call telling me they were working on it which surprised me considering I had only left it with them and considering how busy they were. I'd like to thank everyone there for sorting out what was a really awkward job but its running like a new car now. Thanks to Wes in particular who I knew from previous visits to him in the past.I would really recommend pengallys garage for anyone.

Booked car in for Mot & ABS/DTSC Light sorting out.Had car in for 9 days, been told by David he's too busy to look at it,and there is no schematics available,so had to collect car as it was 9 days later without MOT with no issues fixed.Been told it is not REM,but guess what, diagnosed fault myself which in fact was relay in REM in 30mins with a multimeter and test probe. What a waste of somebody's time. All schematics were available online on the first search result. Why would you advertise as a volvo specialist, when you got no idea how to fault find simple electrical issues.Absolute shambles and waste of time.Only good thing about it all,i wasn't charged.Stay clear.Absolute joke..

A belated review! My V70 boot would not open automatically, nor would it close despite many whirring sounds. The fault was intermittent. Mr Pengelly inspected the car over several days, including electrical testing, and concluded that the motor was Burt out. I was told it would be at least £750 for a used replacement motor. It was too expensive so I left and paid 200 quid for the privilage. Some days later the boot started working again. I googled the problem and it is VERY common in V70's. I was directed to a video on youtube where 2 Russian lads demonstrate how to fix it; by accessing the wiring loom in the bulkhead and replacing a connector. It took me 20 minutes and has worked since. So a Volvo specialised was not aware of this common problem? I emailed to point out in fact what the issue had been and how fired etc. No reply. Draw your own conclusions.
