This last Wednesday and Thursday, we were cared for on SAU Hound Ward. The doctors, nurses and staff were extremely kind and caring and gave us time to ask all our questions. Many thanks to you all, including the very helpful and thoughtful radiologist and nurse who did our ultrasound. The waiting times for us were ok and waiting areas peaceful.

My partner was admitted here needing an operation. She was constantly messed about being sent all over the hospital. A nurse said she could sort the issue and left her in more pain and a worse state she came in with an left her with open wounds un treated. The sru unit was a joke she was told they was going to operate so she couldn't eat or drink for 6 hours. Her operation kept being pushed back but still told she couldn't eat because its only by a few hours. It got to the point where my partner hadn't eaten for 26 hours and was told operation couldn't be done. At this point my partner was so weak, dehydrated as she wasn't put on a drip after I told the staff she is clearly deteriorating she needs some sort of drip. Her open wounds was never checked or cleaned as the first department never informed the surgical unit. I then had to get my partner out of the trolly she was on and put her in a chair as she was kept being given oramorth practicly sedating her constantly and take her for food. On return she was told she could go and come back even though she couldn't walk was completely out of it and certainly couldn't drive but apparently a dr said she was fit to leave even though she wasn't assessed by this dr. Luckily we got family to get us and taken us to torbay hospital and within 24 hours the surgery was done with alot better treatment and discovered my partner had an infection due to open wounds caused by derriford that was untreated by derriford. I am disgusted with derriford hospital with the way my partner was treated. I would recommend completely avoiding this place they should be invested and shut down

My Experience at the UTC in the Derriford (Dartmoor) Building I brought my 5-year-old child to the UTC today because he had bleeding from his nose. We arrived and checked in, but even after more than two hours of waiting, we still haven’t been able to see a practitioner. The waiting time shown on the screen said 1 hour and 57 minutes, but we have already been waiting for more than two hours, and there’s still no update. I understand that the staff are busy, but small children should be given some level of priority, especially when they are unwell and in distress. As I’m writing this post, I’m still sitting here with my child, waiting to be seen. This is my personal experience today at the UTC.

An incredible amount of excellent care has been received by me from the staff at this hospital. Thank you Derriford NHS staff. I probably wouldn't still be here without you. Cleanliness: The hospital and loos are always clean and tidy. Take note of and wash your hands. Alcohol gel doesn't kill all viruses. Signposting: The wards and departments well signposted but it can be a bit overwhelming if you are visiting for the first time. Take time to understand the signposting, this is a large hospital with 6 floors. Lifts: The main entrance lifts are just past the small gift shop on the right. Patients and staff are transported in these lifts so you may need to wait longer than you'd want so if you're cutting it fineand can, find the stairs. Parking: There is plenty of parking and a number of car parks to choose from,.including a disabled car park. This one often has queues so plan extra time if you need disabled parking. You can drop off outside but it can get busy. Park & Ride: There is a park and ride not far away, buses drop you off outside the main entrance at the bus stops. Food: Outside there is an M&S Food store with lots of tasty things to eat and drink. There is also a good sized cafe just inside the main entrance.

I visited A&E in the late afternoon on a Friday and despite waiting for a long time with a work colleague had a very pleasant experience. The waiting area was calm and we were kept informed throughout. Tea/coffee and food was offered at regular intervals and the staff were wonderful and friendly. The waiting time was only due to the staff shortages being experienced across the country and these NHS workers should be entitled to the pay rises and working conditions they so rightly deserve.

Had to have minor surgery here for cancer. All the staff were very professional and the surgeon was first class; made me feel very at ease with the surgical procedure. Can't fault the treatment that I had here at all, and I don't think you would get any better by going private. Place was immaculately clean and the staff were very friendly.

I cannot praise highly enough of all the Derriford staff. I was admitted via A&E onto the SAU. The staff were efficient kind and incredibly hard working. Derriford also has a patient discharge ward/ room which is a brilliant idea. Thank you for your support and kindness and the efficient way I was cared for. Xxx

I had an appendectomy yesterday in. I had to wait a long time, because of course there is a shortage of staff. Despite all that, everyone (doctor, nurses, etc.) was always nice and very helpful. I come from Austria and have never had such a good experience with a hospital. Thank you to all the staff for your efforts!

Located about 10 mins off the A38 North of Plymouth, this huge complex is a busy, well serviced NHS Trust Hospital. Stagecoach and Citibus run from the City centre at regular intervals, the car parking is ample and very well signposted with three large uncovered and one Multistorey car parks. The main entrance has a patient drop off directly outside adjacent to the many bus stops serving the local area. Once inside we were greeted with a volunteer offering help, a small reception area and a 24/7 Warrens Cafe, WH Smith and a league of friends shop. Toilets and lifts to all floors are situated near the entrance area. The toilets were spotlessly clean in the main building and the CT scan unit. The hospital was clean throughout our visit and the staff polite and helpful, masks are required everywhere. There is a 24/7 A&E and a Helipad!
