This was the 5th time we've stayed at a Carswell cottage, and 3rd time in The Mews. So relaxing, so peaceful and beautiful countryside, we love it and look forward to our next stay.
Having stayed in several of these lovely cottages over the last couple of years we can thoroughly recommend Corner Cottage and Shepherds Cottage where we had a longer stay this winter. The cottages are in a tranquil and unspoilt area. There is a lot to explore and so much to do. Beautiful beaches and the coastal path nearby, Dartmoor not too far, Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers almost on the doorstep both equally pretty with some good pubs. The cottages are well equipped with lovely views over the countryside and plenty of wildlife to see.... it really is far from the madding crowd but reasonably accessible. Thank you to Jo and her team for making us welcome.
I really enjoyed the foraging experience, so informative, relaxed and in beautiful surroundings. The walk and down to the beach was spectacular and to then come back and cook what we had foraged was a great way to spend a sunny afternoon. I have told so many people how good it was!
This was our third trip to Lambside House and we were impressed with the renovations. We had a lovely weekend. It’s a great place for a couple of families to enjoy the Devon coast and countryside. Very spacious and comfortable with everything you need. Not so good if you want/need to home from work as the WiFi is very intermittent and 4\5G coverage non existent in places. The hot tub seemed beyond our capabilities, which was a shame as the kids were really looking forward to using it. However, I’m sure it’s good once you get it working. Jo was, as ever, really helpful and on hand whenever we needed anything or had a dumb question! Would definitely recommend and would come back.
We had a short weekend in the Beach Hut in mid September . We loved it - everything about it. It is totally isolated and peaceful. The hut is beautifully equipped and cosy. The hot tub is fabulous and when it rains it simply does not matter. The Carswell team were very helpful and friendly . A big part of me did not want to write this review because I know how hard it is already to get a booking here!
First stayed here 14 years ago and loved it then. Stayed last week and it was still lovely. Fantastic wood burner - perfect with a glass of wine on cold winters evenings. Within 5 min walk of the coastal pathway, with stunning scenery whichever direction you take.
Perfect romantic retreat away from it all. Cottage immaculate with everything you may need, pristine beach, outdoor hot tub perfect for watching the sunsets from. A truly magical place.
Perfect location for numerous activities.. we were part of a wedding party ( nearby associated Carswell Weddings field with views over looking the coast) and were able to utilise all the accommodation in barns cottages and the main house. We stayed in The Corner House and it was perfect. Everything has been thought through and provided to allow total self sufficiency. Local provisions were awaiting. Bedrooms were comfortable( although slightly odd v bouncy beds?) , bathrooms very clean and the living area was spacious for large family gatherings. Overall a winner - thank you. A memorable stay for many reasons !
The stay at the Beach Hut was a totally magical experience, one that we will talk about and remember for some time. The idyllic isolation was so very beautiful we both felt so happy that we were able to stay. Listening to the waves and looking out on the ever changing view was definitely good for the soul. I would recommend this accommodation , to anyone who wants to totally relax.
My husband and I stayed a week in The Lodge during the HOT September weather. We had the most wonderful week. Dawn went above and beyond in her help and generosity, including when i left my glasses behind..they arrived at my home next day! The Lodge is unique- i loved the details of the woodwork. So comfortable and charming - beautiful decor and pretty private garden. Very enjoyable pub lunches and beaches - hope to return!
