Such a shame. This place used to be wonderful. The cafe is an absolute disaster. Poor food, rude staff and really dirty. Closure of the small cafe because they ran out of cups!! Poor management. It's turned from a retail gem to an absolute disaster.
Came in today for a quick browse, and one of the staff members were awfully rude!! She had long brown hair and couldn’t stop throwing the other customers dirty looks!! Run away from this place. Staff are awful.
What a very disappointing experience for such a lovely shop, their cafe/restaurant was a disaster clearly nobody in charge full of non interested young staff. Ordering food was a long drawn out process with my wife eating he deli counter food before my order was placed. A serious time and motion study required here. Food was good but service extremely poor…
We ate in lower restaurant, food was delicious, service atrocious. No greeting, no apple juice in this area but upstairs area had some we had to go get it ourselves. Today I called in for takeaway scones and a dessert, staff member phaffed so long to get suitable paper bags to put item in then couldn't provide receipt as she didn't know how to change till roll. Really avoca sort your staff out on the basics.
A beautiful store with exceptional quality products. The food looks great too. There is a great variety to suit just about all tastes.
Had beef and Guinness pie with salad with drink (£18). Very disappointed, pie was dry, very dry and without a hint of Guinness taste. The pastry although it looked impressive and tasty merely added to the dry pie. I have heard a lot about here but sadly cannot share the enthusiasm friends have for it myself. I cannot see myself coming here again for lunch .
Cafe had huge queues which moved at an absolute snail’s pace. Woeful. Went to the traybake, scones and drinks area instead. £5.95 for a vanilla and almond scone and tea which was grand. They offered to heat it too which was really nice on a miserable day. Would have spent more had it not been for the queues. Book selection isn’t as good anymore and nor is the jewellery and trinkets. Too many smellies and journals - the latter being very expensive for what they were. They need bigger premises and a better selection like they have in Avoca Dublin.
