We went in at 16:00 to have a fully loaded sushi roll and was quite disappointed by the whole experience, the premises is nice and the location is great but £10 for a sushi roll is a bit steep, when I asked for wasabi in my roll I was handed a small pot which was far to much wasabi for one person and charged a £1 for it when all I wanted was a nice amount added to the roll. As vegan we struggle to find good quick to go food and as a chef I know how much it costs to produce the sushi rolls. It’s a shame but we will be considering other option before choosing Happy Maki again, the rolls were nice but not £10 nice.

Vegan Asian restaurant in North Laine. Food is fresh and quite good. We had rice bowl with teriyaki sauce w sweet potato and something I can't remember....we came away very bloated from just sharing one bowl which was v odd. Miso soup was v disappointing, not enough miso used I think. Cauliflower bites though we're very good! Best thing we ate. It was very busy and there was a little wait but I loved the whole ethos of the place in terms of non profit etc.

Vegan sushi burritos!! Would recommend this place to anyone. I had a nori burrito, which is so different to anything else! So healthy and tasty! Would also highly recommend the salmon options. I'd never found a vegan one I'd liked, and the one my partner had was very tasty! Lovely atmosphere, really relaxed and cute decor. Very reasonable price! Lovely people working there. One of the staff gave me a taste of the ponso mango before I made my choice!

I have been looking forward to visiting Happy Maki for some time, however my visit left me quite underwhelmed. The quality and flavour of the food didn’t meet my expectations, particularly considering the price point. The satay sauce was basically a runny peanut butter, the burrito didn’t hold together well and fell apart on eating and for me flavour was really lacking. The food was fresh however and arrived quickly. Located up a flight of stairs on the first floor.

Very impressed by the huge selection of options to customise the food. As well as fresh vegetables there were lots of interesting vegan equivalents to traditional sushi and all of the ones tried were delicious. The portion was generous and they didn't skimp on sauce. For takeaway the wait was a bit longer than I expected, otherwise I really enjoyed it.

Vegan but better! They nailed the hoisin duck and the portion was deceptively filling. Never expected to feel satisfied from vegan food, but this place changed my mind. I rate this place a "Mmmm Yummers" Out of 10

Wonderful not for profit vegan sushi cafe in the heart of the Lanes in Brighton selling a huge range of delicious and generously portioned dishes including burritos, bowls and poke bowls plus a range of sides and desserts. What's not to like? Gift economy where they give you the cost price and you decide what you'd like to pay. It's much cheaper than comparative cafe/restaurants and you get much more for your money. Unfortunately not everyone pays cost or above so if you can afford it, be generous to such an amazing "concept" cafe. Donations are also made from them for each dish sold to providing food for needy children and tree planting.

A vegan sushi restaurant should raise some eyebrows but there is a real variety of textures, flavours and options on offer here. As a not for profit you know that you’re treating others whilst treating yourself and it’s definitely a reasonable treat! I had the burrito and my friends had a sushi bowl each. Will definitely be returning!

We visit every time we are in Brighton. Incredible attention to detail from the menu to the actions of the staff as they move the sushi burritos across the production line. The gifting payment method is confusing, but novel enough for me to enjoy the experience. I think we would prefer to 'overpay' after eating rather than before. We will be back of course.
