I always loved to have lunch here, especially the seafood options. This time, I stopped on a busy afternoon in the middle of the holiday rush. They were kind and happily offered me a table. The combo of Barbeque prawns and Caesar salad was a tasty choice for a quick lunch!

Absolutely fantastic food — we shared a 750g bone-in sirloin that was cooked to perfection. For sides, we went for the creamed spinach, chips, onion rings, and quite possibly the best mash we’ve ever had. The venue itself is great, with a warm atmosphere that really elevates the experience. The only disappointment was the cocktails. The selection felt limited, and the ones we tried were unfortunately quite underwhelming. Overall, though, The Coal Shed delivers an excellent meal, and we’d happily return for the food alone.

I had the loveliest meal this evening! I was served by Jindra who I must say was one of the most brilliant waiters I have experienced for a long time. He was so attentive and we shared some nice chats in-between my courses. I had the pork belly to start which was so sweet and flavoursome. I followed that up with the short rib which is absolutely something to write home about! This was accompanied by the truffle mac and cheese which was great. I was amazingly then still hungry (due to my massive appetite, not small portion sizes!) so I had the steak tartare and chips which were both top tier! So much flavour in the steak tartare. I then had the chocolate tart for dessert which was not too sweet which I enjoyed. The two pints of guiness I had were also gorgeous! Sensational experience all around. :)

Absolutely amazing! We came for lunch at 1pm and had a blast. Firstly, I loved the mocktail section. The amoretto sours was soo tasty and was great paired with the starters. The highlight was the scallops. The artichoke dip was ok, not the best. The burger was massive and delicious, and I especially loved the chips. Everyone loved their meals, however the short ribs were a bit too sweet.

Absolutely wonderful service and experience. I had the scallops to start (stunning!) and cod which was good but would, with the other flavours on the plate (charred hispi cabbage and curried mussel sauce), benefited from a firmer fish like hake or halibut, which is much firmer. To me the cod was lost in the bold other flavours. Overall though this is an excellent restaurant and the execution of food presentation is outstanding.

If you like meat, this is the place for you! There are other options if you're not a a meat eater, but I am and I had the Cheeseburger, which was excellent! My friends shared the beef rib, which I am reliably informed was excellent. My wife ate the aubergine which she really enjoyed, so all-in-all it was a good evening. We had a carafe of red wine, two large soft drink, no starters or dessert and the total bill was £140, so not cheap, but good value, in my opinion.

Absolutely incredible EVERYTHING! Food atmosphere service. The food- best quality steak we have had for a very long time. Presentation and service outstanding. Fantastic little gem tucked away in the side street. A must!

Dinner with family, impromptu and without a booking, which in Brighton appears very necessary even on a Monday night, but the Coal Shed made an effort to fit us in. Just giving it a go already gave me a good feeling about this place and from then it kept getting better. Service was friendly, humble and efficient. Food was fantastic and full of flavour and the process was seamless.

Central place with a lovely ambience. Welcoming and helpful staff. However, I felt that the stake that I had (well done) was actually overcooked. It was so dry and hard making it difficult to eat. The side sauces though and tuna starter were really nice.

Incredible in every way. I set out to find the best Sunday roast outside of London, but instead I think I found the best in the UK and so probably the world. Sirloin steak with all the accompaniments. Everything perfectly cooked to an unbelievable level of flavour. Heaven!
