Only 1 star given DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Awful service, went after 20 minutes open and there was fish already cooked, and did not look appealing whilst deciding what to order the man proceeded to shout at me and seemed very frustrated whilst I was deciding, when I had the audacity to ask for a freshly made haddock instead of what he had prepared already, The place has not been decoraded since the 70s, Arrived home, haddock tasted like mushy tasteless sludge it definitely WAS NOT, haddock, it was probably out of Jim's koi pond next door, with horrible batter, and it was dripping in oil that was darker than WD-40 the cod was as soft as Harveys ring piece during a case And the chips were harder than Andrews appetite at a wrongen convention, it was just all WONG ! a waste of 20 quid, and petrol !

Double cooked chips in a well folded paper cone, ice cold crispy gherkin and just the right amount of mushy peas. If you’re in kemp town and fancy some chips, this is the place (plaice).

Just moved to the area and pleased to have a chippy right behind our flat! Popped in for Friday night chippy tea - large cod & chips between my son and I. Was in and out in a few minutes, both fish & chips were yummy, no cooking for me and minimal washing up so a winner all round.

I have agree with previous reviews we moved into area and tried it. The batter fell off our plaice. Good prices but questionable freshness. Our plaice had started to smell a little funky at one end. So we didn’t notice until we got to that end. The chips were proper. The battered sausage looked so cheap quality. I’m not sure I’d go back there again. But it’s so local. Service was indeed friendly and quick.

Very poor quality. Chips tough & overcooked and fish mushy and tasteles (I added my own beans in the pic).

I have lived in Ipswich, Swindon, Leicester , Nottingham , london and now Brighton and this is by far the worst chippy tea I’ve ever had in my life. The best chippy was in derby if you wanted to know

Worst fish and chips I've had in years. Even worse customer service. I live locally and have always been warned by friends that have lived nearby for over 20 years to avoid this place. Tonight I figured, "how bad can it really be?" and decided to give it a go. Well, I just found out exactly why this place has such a bad reputation. The guy behind the counter got my order wrong (no biggie right? Just correct it, simple!) However he actually got angry with me when I asked that he correct the mistake as he had already charged my card and what I had asked for was £1.50 more. He absolutely refused to charge me the extra and I had no cash on me. "Five pound minimum he kept saying" - after he had just charged me 8 quid already. He even said it was my fault. Ummm?? Lovely customer service there mate. Perhaps an anger management course might help along with some cooking lessons? All over a small vs large portion of chips. Jesus. Anyway, after all that nonsense the food was seriously awful. Cold, super oil-slick greasy, sloppy, soggy and just gross. Like I said, I live right around the corner and after that I'll never go in there again.

people say that the Kemptown Chippy is a Brighton institution. I can see why! lovely friendly guy, fresh fried fish, crispy golden batter, hand cut chips, generous portions, and tasted great. we'll be back for sure!
