Cozy Cafe atmosphere. Service is friendly and unobtrusive. Can be very full at times,my visit was a morning coffee and snack,very well cooked and presented.

Chez Joel is unique. With it's mix of traditional French cuisine, continental decor, and old Tudor England just outside on the street, it gives the best of the French experience with English to fall back on if you're unsure. Speak French if you want to, and English if you don't! Chex Joel operates a small cafe and delicatessen during the day, serving coffees, pastries, and splendid lunches. During Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings it turns into a smashing restaurant serving delicious French recipes, cooked to order. Visit! You won't regret it.

The food was exceptional!! this is a wonderful little gem of a place. The host was so friendly and helpful, even with our limited French.. It was just like being in france! The escargot - delicious, the wine fantastic.. They even got our favourite cheese in! All set in the quaint village of Steyning. Just perfect, can't wait to go back. And we live an hr away!! 10/10
Visited 2 weeks ago - made to feel unwelcome and like we were an inconvenience. Not attended to at all within 20 minutes of sitting. Menu also seemed very limited so walked out. Do not recommend.
If I could give it no stars I would. The food was bland and tepid. The wine corked and staff don't know much about what was on offer. Very limited vegi options. Why does this place think because a person is vegetarian that they want mushrooms in everything!! No all vegetarians eat mushrooms. Never going again.
Amazing delicatessen and cafe, lots of products to choose from and the ladies at the counter were so helpful.
Perfect with some added drops of kindness! We ate there this evening. I wanted to write a review straight away as we were so impressed. To start, the owners are just wonderful, Sarah is kind and attentive she gives time to you, making sure you know about each dish and their wine variety. The food is divine and so perfectly cooked. They gave us dessert to take home as an extra. Thank you so much.We will be taking the rest of our family next time. :) Sorry no photos taken as we were enjoying the expereicne so much!
