Fantastic service, wonderful menu and spotlessly clean, historical pub. The food was outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. (Travelling from Australia in December 2025)

We live in Spain and was visiting all the family in the UK. Great bar and restaurant and a good atmosphere . Not a noisy bar so you can hear conversations. Being originally from the south of England and enjoy food I had to try the laverbread. Did not disappoint thought it was very tasty, the flavour reminds me of having squid ink rice and pasta dishes in Spain. Had the large cod and chips which was ok but not the best that I have had. Would like to visit again next time in the area

A real gem of a pub, we stopped here on the way down the M4 based on the reviews, rather than stop at the services. The beer was nice, staff were friendly, and the food was excellent. I had a steak and ale pie that was very tasty and had lots of meat. The hunters chicken and beef lasagna also both looked great. It's in a scenic location so it would be a good place to visit if you wanted to go for a walk in the area.

I have been interested in cooling at this place for many years. Whenever I have driven past the car park was always full and when I stopped to talk to somebody they said the food is excellent so I knew it was a place I had to try. The prawn cocktail was very nice and the roll that came with it was so so cute. The Sunday dinner itself was really tasty. They was plenty of veg and lots of meat. The vegetarian mushroom Wellington was really tasty and although looked small was so so filling. I will definitely be going back it was delicious.

We went for a birthday lunch, and our friend booked the table. He mentioned that this pub is quite famous and dates back to the 15th century — over 100 years old! The interior inside the pub is amazing, full of charm and character. Our food was fantastic, and I’m glad we didn’t order appetizers because the portions were very generous. I had the cod, while my friends enjoyed the chicken and gammon steak — all of which were delicious. The service was excellent, with staff regularly checking in to ensure everything was perfect. It’s a great spot, and I’d highly recommend it if you’re in the area!

Wonderful service and proper portions well cooked and presented. Misread the bill and underpaid but sorted later. Really impressed with all the staff and a joy to eat there on a Saturday afternoon. Need more pubs like this!!!!

This place is fantastic. The welcome, the food. Worth a visit. Their onion rings are the best.

Visited here with my husband for Sunday lunch. Meal was fantastic and will definitely return again. Food was fresh, piping hot and plenty of it. Dessert of crumble and cream was beautiful. Staff were friendly and polite, quick to take orders and served quickly and efficiently 10 out of 10. Very clean dining area.
