The food was bland! The food was supposed to come in sauce and it was tasteless water! The sweet and sour sauce was like radioactive waste. Bright red jelly stuff. Do not order Chinese from here… it’s rough.
me and my partner have order from here countless times over the years but recently the chinese food has become vile! we loved thier food but the last few times it's been funny testing or over cooked, not what we are used to from goldenfish what a let thier food has become. will now be looking for a new place to order that dosnt send out pork that's so dry and hard that my leather belt would of been easier to eat. the pork clearly had been reheated several times in a microwave!!!! shame as we like surrporting our local takeaway!
I ordered a takeaway for delivery as I was leaving work not knowing how bad the traffic was. I called the store to say I was stuck in traffic and might not get back in time. They were very helpful and had no problem with pushing back my order time just give them another call when I know when I will be home. I called as soon as I got in and they cooked it right away. The delivery man was at the door within 15 minutes ( we don't live far from the shop) the fish and chips turned up piping hot and delicious. Thank you
The Golden Fish Hill-barn.Lancing.It has to have been the worse Fish and Chips ever! The batter was very thick and had a very funny taste to it. It was covered in thick bubbles of batter which I found inedible. The fish which was advertising as cod was just a large lump of mush.?There was none of the moist flake's of fish normally associated with cod. It was like either grossly overcooked or it was some cheap processed fish. Again totally inedible. We asked for a small chips and the portion we got was enormous, hard and crunchy and almost cold. The whole lot went into the bin. The cost £17.20 was a complete waste of money and the smell and look of the meal made you loose your appetite. I emailed the restaurant on their feedback site and heard nothing. We only went there because our normal one in Test Road which is excellent is closed for annual holiday. Don’t go there is my advice.
Been searching for a good Chinese Takeaway since moving into Steyning. Tried a few different takeaways in the area but their curry's wern't any good. BUT the beef curry from Golden Fish was FANTASTIC! So was the chicken and sweetcorn soup and egg fried rice. I also bought a beef curry from the one a minute down the road 'Lancing Oriental Express', more expensive and it was horrible! Golden Fish, you are my new 'local' Chinese, I'll defo drive from Steyning each time! :)
Hot and tasty food, good portions. My only gripe is the chow mein noodles were more like spaghetti and rather plain, would prefer slightly more crispy but this is being picky.. Still good the rest was good so will be back! Great service.

Delivery waited over an hour never turned up when l called they had not even cooked my order told another half hour, l said don't bother beans on toast then.
We live out the area now so don't often visit, but being a Monday, our usual places were closed, and we were close to Golden Fish. Took advantage of their Monday and Wednesday deal, very nice food and good value. We were fed well and full, 4 dishes for £17.90.
Staff sat watching TV eating spring rolls when I arrived. Didn't stop eating or wash his hands whilst preparing my chips. Never heard of cross contamination or personal hygiene obviously.
