Reviewing multiple visits - first time with friends, second time to check out some beers for our venue. First visit on a Saturday was just what you'd expect - busy and vibrant. Next one, midweek was a quieter affair but no less enjoyable. Abyss have created a great outdoor space in the shadow of the old mill building; when it's packed with people it can be loud without being overwhelming. Indoors is quite different. You're in the brewhouse, with its original mill floors, surrounded by steel, ingredients and containers and you really get a sense of being close to the process that made your beer. Despite being in a brewery, Abyss have created a great atmosphere - low lighting, music at the right level and, despite the high ceilings, there is no ringing echo, just a really good buzz. As you'd expect, a brilliant range of beers and more, to cater for all tastes with a lean towards modern styles than trad. Staff are fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable about the products and, at less busy times when they have time, are happy to chat. Didn't eat so can't rate the food, but it looked great and heard from others that it is. If you really want to get an appreciation of how much work goes into making the taproom what it is, pay them a visit during non-taproom hours - you won't recognise it!

Popped into the Abyss taproom on a brief visit to Lewes today. Easy enough to get to, quite close to town. Their beers are excellent as was the service! Excellent and knowledgeable staff. Burger van smelt devine....but i had dinner plans elsewhere. A must visit for any modern beer fan!

Had always been on my tongue do list of places on Lewes to visit. Was very happy with both the beers, the selections available (the cheeky sour I had was very nice) The food (Burger and chips) were on point however the slaw which cost an additional Β£4 felt like someone had popped some veg peel craps in a tub and called it a day. It was my singular issue.

Amazing craft beer spot. Lovely burgers and tacos. Fish tacos, veggie, steak and pork. Outside in the summer is amazing. The beer garden faces due west so you get sun all afternoon. Beer is amazing, I absolutely love this place!

Fantastic brewery, excellent selection of beers and nice cider/s too. Has a food van on site that serves omni and vegan diets. Great atmosphere and a bonus mini golf course! Dog friendly as well.

The best place to drink in Lewes and by far the best beer! The taproom is a fantastic space with plenty of seating in and out with plenty of heaters and a fire pit to keep everyone comfortable on cold nights. There is always something going on at the taproom, be it Beer Cadets, Art nights, DJ sessions, craft fairs and even twerking lessons! They have a wonderful selection of rotating beers with some favourites on repeat. Always try out anything they have on cask, it will be delicious! And who can forget the irresistible lure of stacks of nachos or delicious tacos from Carloto Burrito.. Exactly what you need to soak up the excess alcohol!

Quality tap room a little walk out of town on an industrial estate, great layout and special care has been taken to make the place feel like a bar not just a tap room. They have thought of everything. Good selection of ABYSS beer from pales, ipa, doubles ipa and stouts. Big fridge of cans and some guest stuff. They even have wine for the non beer drinker. One Cask line as well as 8 ish keg lines :) Food outside is Mexican stuff, tacos and burritos, loads of options. Plenty of seating indoor and outside with tables. Dj on Saturday night. Gets busy to arrive early if you want a table. Friendly staff both inside the tap room and on the food truck. Dog friendly inside the tap. Will be back again one day to see how the place develops. One of the best brewery taps we've been to in the UK.

Great hidden gem! A good range of house and guest ales plus other guest drinks (eg lovely Sussex session cider). Service was great and we really enjoyed the delicious fresh Mexican food. Friendly atmosphere. Nicely styled outside and inside area (we were there at night) with tables and seating. Inside not heated at all so wrap up in the cold! Discovered it recently; not easy/obvious to find (from the centre of town). Could do with some wider signposting but perhaps itβs just for those who *really* seek to find it! Will be going again. Recommend for a friendly hipster hangout.

Really good beer (Pale Deluxe & Dank Marvin were favs) & nice vibe to the place. Visited during the day but have been told the evenings/nights are more impressive (lights & atmosphere). Fire pit & outside heating + food truck are very welcome.
