Came in for a drink with friends last night. Young girl who served us behind the bar was rude. Had our drink and left straight away to find a more friendly place to spend our evening

Great buzzy pub in central Brighton. Catch the bus in. No parking nearby. Nice on street outdoor area.

Aggressive, paranoid doorstaff. Having recently moved to the area saw that this might be an interesting place to check out. I walked past the venue and the security staff said “entrance to the side”. I approached what I thought was an entrance door and was asked by the security what I was doing. I said I thought I was at the entrance and he said “no the entrance is here”, pointing into the railings. I walked up to the railings, and the same man said “ I don’t think I’ll be letting you in now.” I asked why, and he said I “don’t have to say, but in my experience, someone looking around like you did (for the entrance…) shouldn’t be coming in”. What an incredibly odd thing to say. I said I haven’t been drinking (I’m several years sober) and he said “well I’m not to know that”). What the hell? This really ruined my night, I had done nothing to deserve such treatment and I’m very happy to tell the world how poor the doorstaff’s attitude is here. If you’re looking for somewhere welcome that is interested in actually attracting new patrons, don’t go to the Mash Tun. Description of door staff: small, bearded man. Possibly should be tested for having consumed something that leave them a little bit on edge.

Disgraceful treatment by staff!! REFUSED WATER We were refused tap water by the bartender for no clear reason just told we “seemed rude.” The staff openly admitted they were withholding water on purpose because of how they perceived us. Let’s be clear: Even if we did seem rude which is subjective —that is not a legal reason to refuse/withhold free drinking water. Under UK licensing law, all licensed venues must provide water on request. This wasn’t a safety issue or drunkenness it was a power trip by staff who didn’t want to serve us because they didn’t like our vibe. We weren’t asking for alcohol. We were trying to do the right thing by looking after a drunk friend This statement is captured in the video we recorded, where she dismissively says, “no one seems that drunk to me they should see a bouncer.” That’s not how safety or customer care works. isn’t just unprofessional it’s dangerous! And I will be taking further action on the staff members. I’ve reported the venue to the council and included the pictures of staff and all video as evidence. If this is how they treat people trying to act responsibly, they don’t deserve a licence and for sure the jobs of the 2 ladies. These type of situations can lead to people potentially dying so this had to be taken very seriously to protect other people.

I've been here a number of times. Now I'm very critical of venues, more so working in the trade. This venue is a hidden gem. Staff have been 100% great during the dusk app cluster mishaps (almost said @@@@ ups). A free drink so who would complain. Many I bet. Staff as I say have always been bang on the money. Greet before you fully in venue.. a credit to managers and Laine pubs. More managers of venue. I will say I'm not a fan of outside heating. Just burning electricity. But hey renewables I have not tried food yet, that's one for not pub spy (or sly). Only down fall was the guys on the venue outside, didn't see SIA badges on display as they asked me what I wanted (both in tracksuits). Unless Im intox and drinking lucky Saint I would doubt it, I'm out to enjoy my night.

Last sip of beer... Huge piece of limescale in the glass. I discreetly reported to staff who where apologetic but no discount or drink were offered. We will not be back. Shame cause they have a good selection of beers.

A nice pub with plenty of outdoor seating. The beer selection wasn't anything to write home about, but they had a couple of perfectly ok beers. The toilets were a bit gross, but the service was fast and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed.

Great place to chill with good variety of beers. A little loud inside with music(used to love it though when I was in my 20s).. Outside was just perfect!!

Decent burgers today. Decent selection of ales. My only points would be, the blue cheese on the wife's burger wasn't noticeable and you really have to time it here to not be rammed. (But that just reflects on the place being popular!) Happily revisit and recommend.
