This was an absolutely wonderful experience. I visited on a weekend and tried the Sunday Trio Main by Chef John, which truly was one of the most satisfying hearty meals I’ve enjoyed. Sue's warm and friendly greeting made the visit even more special, and her lovely conversations added a personal touch. The atmosphere is inviting, and the beautiful location and view genuinely enhance the entire experience, this place has now become one of my top three motorcycle trip destinations. It's a perfect spot for a leisurely ride and a relaxing stop, offering delicious food and some of the most breathtaking views in the region. I highly recommend it.

We were given a small 2 person table and said it felt very small and asked if we could move but the waitress said “there’s nowhere else tonight, I have a big booking and all these tables are booked” despite some of them not even being used whilst we were in. The waitress (Sue) came to get our drinks order whilst I was looking at the menu, I joked and said “ooh now I’m under pressure I can’t decide” and she stood laughing so I just passed with a lemonade instead of a cocktail like I was looking at because it got awkward. Even forgetting the little things like a half or pint of lemonade as I forgot to ask for a half so ended up getting a £4 odd lemonade that I only drank half off. The calamari was warm, not hot and there was no salt and pepper to it at all. Unfortunately lacked flavour massively. Triple cooked chips were gorgeous and the signature burger was great, really tasty but the burger patty did have a slightly smokey burnt flavour to it. Some people like that though and my partner didn’t mind it. The little ramekin that the pickles came in was chipped all round the edges too. The atmosphere all felt very rushed with 3 staff members in, you could feel they were rushing, phone left ringing near us. The only thing that wasn’t rushed was them getting the bill. Asked for the bill and the lady said she’d ask for our waitress to sort it. 10/15 minutes later our waitress walked past and our bill hadn’t arrived so we asked her and she said yes she’d sort it and then started resetting another table instead of getting the bill. We then got it and she didn’t ask if we wanted a card reader or anything and we needed to leave so we ended up taking the bill to the bar and paying there. There was real potential for 5* but things felt rushed in a good few areas whilst also feeling forgotten, the calamari let it down food wise and the little attentions to detail like the broken ramekin too. I believe the service would’ve been much better if staff weren’t feeling rushed and under pressure which isn’t entirely their fault if there isn’t enough staff in that’s not on them.

The pub next to Devil’s Duke park is really cozy. The fireplace was so nice and made the place feel warm and romantic. The smell of wood made it even better. They had a good variety of drinks and mocktails. We tried one mocktail and a strawberry apple cider—both were great. We also had some finger food that was extremely delicious. Overall, it was a lovely stop after the walk, and we’re definitely going to visit this place again.

Nice meal for two. We had the steak board for two. Food took a bit longer than expected to come out but it was delicious and worth the wait! Great service. Pub was very quiet as we arrived quite early so pleasant atmosphere.

Food and service here were excellent. I had the soup of the day and calamari, and my friend had the pork belly special. We were quickly seated by Sally and she checked in on us constantly even as the room got busier during lunch. Compliments to chef John for the perfectly balanced food too. Would definitely come back to try something else!

A stunning place to go for easy to medium difficulty walks in all directions from the pub, with amazing views. Popular with dog walkers. Pub is great for a meal but you need to book week in advance, but you can always just grab a pint in the beer garden if not.

Absolutely the best option for a Sunday roast with lovely views. The service is good and fast. The toilets were clean and there was a lovely ambiance. This place is pet friendly. Parking for national trust members is included (but if not a member then it is not too expensive and you kind of could park for free nearby). Extremely recommend.

The best service and good food! Loved the service, the waitress (Ramona) was very nice and kind. The food, especially the dessert was very creative but did not match the mix of the flavours. My pork belly was a bit dry. Eton mess was just a plate with whipped cream. But overall I loved it.

Everyone should go here some time. You can go for beautiful walks around the valley with your kids and dogs or go kiting with them instead! Then afterwards have an amazing and affordable meal in this restaurant. We went there for boxing day and had an amazing time. The restaurant is stunning and the service was superb. Ramona took our order and checked with us regularly. She always gave us plenty of time to pick and because if the check ins was there immediately when you knew what you wanted. They came to let us know 2 minutes before the kitchen closed if we would still like some desert. They came to our table to let us know when the bar was closing and offered us a last drink. Now the food was really good. I had a tasty sirloin steak which was made exactly the way I like it. My partner had the turkey which he really enjoyed and what he particularly liked is that "you really get the veggies". Sometimes at a restaurant there are all these veggies listed and you get 2 tiny carrots and 1 broccoli. The veggies were well made and perfectly balanced with the meal. (I thought the same with my sirloin which had some garlic, tomato and salad added. Not nearly as much as with the turkey but again perfectly balanced. The oven baked mushrooms were a treat but the desert really got me. I am normally not a desert person but I loved loved loved the brownie with irish coffee ice cream and the crème brûlle with cherries was just amazing because it came with this like butter cookie which really broke through insane sweetness and gave you am extra bit of crunch and a softer flavor. Drinks: Tasty tasty ciders which we lack in the Netherlands ( super jealous) We have a bottle of prosecco too very affordable and tasty. You can go up in price range but I appreciate there being a good option for students
