   I wondered for ages why Whitehawk people call the loop right at the top 'the birdblocks'. This one stop shop being at the base of a block called Kestrel Court being a big clue here, along with Swallow, Falcon and Kingfisher, the penny drops. Locals who need a few essentials are kind of a captive audience as there's no real competition within a ten minute walk and prices reflect that. They have packed a right old selection of stuff into a fairly small space tho - I honestly think I'd prefer to have fewer choices at lower prices - but then people would complain about that too I suppose. They are of course the only place to charge electric keys and gas cards for pre-pay meters this side of the whitehawk/marina roundabout so their pretty long opening hours are going to be useful if you're looking to avoid the lights going out at home on a rainy sunday afternoon. Not so helpful is the policy of not accepting card payments for gas and/or electric, cash only I'm afraid 'but there is an ATM inside' (wink wink - it charges £1.99). Swings and roundabouts at Kestrel - until they build another block on the playground next door, that is. Maybe they'll call it Cuckoo, who's to know?

   Be careful with the alcohol section of this store, bought a bottle of beer today, got home and had a few sips, noticed an odd taste so checked the date, past its best before... By law they're required to notify customers if this is the case, they have not and therefore broken the law.

   Really bad newsagents. So glad I don't live local and have to have this establishment serve me because it is extremely claustrophobic inside. Had a woman with four kids pratting about in the ilse and all I wanted to do is pay for my items. Couldn't get past them and the woman didn't control her kids.. Overall a stressful claustrophobic experience in a store with too much range of products and not enough freedom to browse properly.. Won't be returning again..
