A lively and inclusive LGBTQ+ bar by the seafront. R-Bar offers excellent drink deals, regular fun events (karaoke, bingo, quiz nights) and a warm, welcoming vibe. The sea views are a great bonus. Can get very busy and the music is high energy — perfect for a fun night out.
First bar I visited, and my first karaoke performance on my first visit to Brighton. I was gladly welcomed by Rob who is very lovely and accommodating, giving words of encouragement before I stepped on stage. Oh "Man I Feel Like A Woman!" Thank you for the great evening and for being a safe space for those who visit! I will carry with me a wonderful memory of this place as I head back to Scotland.
I visited while I was in Brighton for a work trip. We happened to find this bar and loved it. The security staff were amazing and so friendly. I've got to give a shout out to Andy. He was lovely. He showed us the fab techie ID system which made us feel safe and intrigued us more than anything. We were happy to give our IDs and find out our Chinese year etc. They also don't let large groups in so again you know they take their guests security seriously. They work hard to maintain a good atmosphere and safe environment. The drinks and whole atmosphere was great. It was also clean. No sticky floors or tables. Just a really great bar. I'll definitely be popping in the next time I'm in the area. Literally can't fault it!
My fave bar in Brighton by far!!!!!!! The vibes are always immaculate, and the staff are just top notch. Would recommend to anyone heading to Brighton!
For a Tuesday night, the energy and atmosphere here for a night it was fantastic. It was also great to see them showcase local and fresh drag talent. Great drinks at reasonable prices too.
Warm and friendly gay bar that has good staff and fun events, how ever they're really not very accommodating if you have food allergies or intolerances. Unable to stock gluten free beer, even when I specified I would pay an extra fee to be able bring in my own as that's all I'm able to drink. I was told no and that's the end of the matter. For the year 2023 most pubs should be accommodating for allergies/ intolerances, celiac disease and low sugar alternatives for people with diabetes ect.
I went to revenge couple of days ago to have thought to have a nice evening as it was lip sync for your life. But I had mistaken. I brought one drink at the bar completely sober and went down the stairs onto the ground floor. With no wet floor signs around I slipped down the stairs and injured my ankle and my arm and not only that and my phone was smashed. Obviously no staff members were regulating floor checks and spillages which left me injured and very upset as it caused me to smash my phone. My brother who was with me witnessed everything and asked the girl at the bar that the stairs are dangerous and slippy and if I could get another drink. The lady refused and said they can't offer me another one which is ridiculous and it wasn't my fault. If i was intoxicated fair enough. So I asked to speak to the manager Charlie and he said he would get me another drink which never came. So my brother asked another staff member about the situation and still yet to do anything. To say I am fond of revenge its ruined my view on the bar i shall not be returning anytime soon as i am so disgusted with the staff and how injured myself and my processions and yet to receive any help. That whole night I spend drinks I never got to drink and had to buy a replacement phone. Probably the most expensive nights out I have every had.
Good bar and cheap during the Sunday-thursday 5-8pm happy hour. Been here many times over the years but visted for the first time in 6 months on a Monday evening with my girlfriend. The new security (bald guy with staring eyes) was very overbearing! Instantly asking for our IDs despite us being 37 & 47! When I informed him of my age he said "it's just had an update and you don't look like the usual type we get in here"! He then proceeded to scan my ID into the security database without even asking and ordered me to stand in front of a camera for my photo to be added. . The new interior make over looks odd. Like a peach coloured nightmare ice cream parlour/American diner. It comes across like they got a cheap deal on peach coloured paint so painted EVERYTHING with it. The place stank of paint which gave my girlfriend a headache The staff were friendly and there was a quiz night on with contestant interactive rounds (best costume made out of toilet paper and best caption on a set photo). It was good fun but very biased towards LGBT as the costume contest was instantly won by a trans woman despite others having put a lot more effort in. The photo captions weren't judged on audience applause either as the table that clearly got the most laughs wasn't even chosen while 2 less funny LGBT/drag themed ones (which only got a couple of weak chuckles) were chosen as joint winners! It was a good quiz night and good value at only £2 a person!
