Second visit after visiting the Riverside Hub. Service is great, good selection of ales and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Had their ultimate burger and it was one best burgers I've ever had. Would thoroughly recommend this pub for anyone in the area.
Worse meal we have ever experienced. After a pleasant meal in March we decided to have a meal this Sunday evening We booked a table for four. 2 x White Bait starters 1 x Sirloin Steak Medium with chips 1 x Sirloin Steak Medium Rare with Sweet potato fries 2 x Roast Turkey meals 1 x Pint Estrella 1 x Bottle of Fleurie red wine No complaints for the Estrella Fluerie - wine White Bait Steaks - 1 came Medium/well (incorrect) 1 came Medium /rare (on the incorrect plate - we noticed after pouring selected sauce and started to eat) Both was pre-defrosted in boiling water - hence left them very rubbery. Roast Turkey Meals - Both delivered cold, gravy turning into jelly, potatoes and parsnips cold and hard - inedible. The mains took quite a long while to be served, and when served we pointed out the issues as soon as we started to eat. The server acknowledge our complaint, apologised and advised that he would let the manager know. We told the server we would eat what we could, as we had to wait quite some time for the meals to be served. When we finished eating what we could (managed to eat both steak meals, Turkey meals we only could eat half of them), we asked for the bill, which was adjusted to meet our complaint - hence the medium score for service. Meal discount - 1 x steak meal - no charge 1 x Turkey meal - no charge 1 x Turkey meal - 40% off Will not eat there again.
Nice friendly atmosphere. Popped in while my car was charging in their car park and had a lovely low alc beer. Lovely place to relax and spend time.
A lovely local clasy pub/restaurant. Modern but relaxing. Has a nice atmosphere. Also has a lovely beer garden. A good car park too if your driving. Prices are okay for the good quality. Delicious food. The staff are fantastic also. Great service. Friendly.
Firstly, big thanks to Lou who went above and beyond despite being busy! I chose the Wig & Walnut for a pre-Christmas family meet-up, (7 guests) with those that wouldn't be around over Christmas. We arrived at the appointed time and were immediately showed to our table which was ready and clean. Lou was quickly on-hand to take our drinks order which arrived quickly and also then to take our food order. She was very friendly, good-humoured, professional and efficient throughout our visit, (as were the other staff also!) even taking a group photo for us so that one of us weren't left out. The food was quick to arrive and excellent with the menu variety & prices being quite reasonable. A great time was had by all so thank you Lou and all! Highly recommended for good value, good quality food and a great family atmosphere. We'll be back! :-)
We visited on Sunday & looked after by lovely host, Ishi. She was so helpful & attentive, keep checking on us if we needed more drinks. My friend had a zesty cocktail called “raspberry mojito” & I had “porn star martini “ Wowza! We asked barmen’s name, Callum, he has some skills! Sunday roast was outstanding, humongous Yorkshire puds. We decided not to have a pud as we were way too full but our waitress, Ishi recommended us to share their wow factor “Chox bomb” dessert. Ooo we loved it! It was Fascinating watching her pour a hot chox & all of a sudden melt at once. We’ve truly enjoyed our evening! Well spent our hard working cash indeed.
We used to visit this venue on a regular basis when it was The Grange Inn, so we decided to give it a try a few weeks after the new refurbishment and rebranding to the Wig & Walnut. We visited on a Saturday night and it was fairly busy. It was nice to see some familiar members of staff and many new ones. We had pre-booked a table and had a choice of tables, so we sat in the bar area for the best atmosphere. We orderd a pint of lager and a medium white wine, £10.35. We both had the Bacon and Cheese Burgers at £13.25 each. These were lovely, albeit the fries could have been hotter. The new management are trying to attract a more higher spending clientele by offering "start with a G&T" at £8.00 each and inflated food prices compared to what the previous Grange Inn used to offer. We used to visit during the week, but will visit now and again on a Saturday instead of more regularly like we used to. I think increasing prices is really poor timing, considering the cost of living crisis at present.
This place is in good shape again. Decent prices, food served fast and hot, but not the highest of quality. But for the price I’m not complaining! Now does quiz nights, speed pool nights etc. Certainly much improved compared to years gone by.
