   We’d just packed the car - full to the brim with two young kids and bikes - after an excellent weekend at the local Centre Parc and were about to set off on our 350 mile trip home to Scotland when we noticed a steady leak of diesel from deep underneath the car. Cue a panicked call to Ampthill MOT Centre, plucked at random from a Google search of well reviewed local garages. It was first thing on a Monday morning, and they were backed up with work, but still they took the time to search for the problem - a corroded fuel return pipe, in just about the least accessible place imaginable. With offers of coffee or tea and biscuits, and having handed over the waiting room (and power sockets for tablets!) to our two young kids, they cracked on with a repair. It took them three hours to access the leak, cut out the corroded section, order up and take delivery of a suitable replacement, and fashion a firm fix. And when the bill came it was very, very reasonable. 350 miles and many hours later, we’re now safely home, and I reckon the fix will last longer than the rest of the car. Huge thanks to everyone at Ampthill MOT Centre for rescuing us in such a friendly way, and for your willingness to make your busy day even busier by helping out total strangers. I totally recommend this garage - almost worth us driving back down for the next service!

   I'm not from the area but I needed my MOT completed ASAP so I took a gamble. Great choice! At £58.45 this was a little pricey but the car passed and there weren't any added 'extras' which I expected as I'm a young woman and have had bad experiences in the past! Gary was really friendly and very accommodating. Would definitely recommend.

2. Holiday Enquiries ★☆☆☆☆

   This place looked good at face value but unfortunately I got awful customer service and I didn't even get as far as my car being looked at. I booked an appointment for MOT and service for 9.30 in the morning on a Friday. All seemed well but when I turned up, Carl explained that he was very busy and did not know when he could even start working on the car, or when it would be finished. I thought it odd that he would book me an appointment in the first place only to turn me away on the day. I re-booked for a later date and he offered to collect and drop the car at my house, which seemed more convenient. Ordinarily I would be out and about with my 2 youngsters, but I arranged to stay home in order to get the MOT done. I phoned the day before to confirm, and Carl was quite non-committal about what time he could get there but that it would be sometime after 9.30. I waited until 11am and then rang and asked for an ETA. Carl said he would call back at 12.30, which would have been useful to know earlier, so that I wasn't waiting around all morning. I took the children out swimming, and when I got back there was a message asking for my address, which I texted back. By 3pm there was still no response and no arrival, so I gave up and booked my MOT with someone else, who seemed a lot more on the ball. Carl was very friendly but I've been left with the distinct sense of being fobbed off, ignored and messed around. I don't know if this is the usual experience here or if I was just unlucky, but there you have it. Bit of a tedious waste of my time!
