This is genuinely the best vet that we've ever used. One of our cats had to have a major op recently and they couldn't have been lovelier. They kept us updated and spent time explaining everything and putting us at ease. They genuinely remember your fur babies and offer consistency where you see the same vet. Their care for animals is second to none.

I have just left Summerhill Veterinary Practice and would urge anyone thinking about registering their pet with Summerhill to read this. Before I go any further, I should stress that all the staff I’ve dealt with at Summerhill Veterinary Practice have been extremely professional and my decision to leave was not because of them. Summerhill Veterinary Practice is owned by a company called IVC Evidensia, a global company owning 2500 vet practices in 20 countries. The company is owned by shareholders, the largest of which is a private equity firm EQT. Prior to 1999, only qualified and licensed veterinary surgeons were permitted to own a veterinary practice, which meant most were small, independent businesses. In 1999 this was changed and corporate entities and other non-veterinary professionals were able to own practices. This led to a significant shift in the market where now the majority of UK practices are owned by a small number of large companies. The modus operandi of these large companies is to offer the owners of independent vet practices large sums of money to become part of the larger company. Gradually they buy up all the independent vets in an area such that competition is reduced and they are able to vastly increase their prices. Their purpose is now to generate profit for their shareholders by exploiting pet owners and, by extension, insurance companies as insurance is now a necessity for many pet owners due to the inflated prices many practices now charge. To give you an idea of how much prices are inflated by, I was given a quote by Summerhill Veterinary Practice to remove a small growth on my dogs back. The quote was nearly Β£2000! Fortunately, I have a friend who is a vet and I sent her the quote for a second opinion. She used to work for a practice owned by IVC Evidensia and told me what I have described above. She advised me to find an independent vet and see what they quoted. I did as she advised and for exactly the same procedure was quoted Β£470. Needless to say, I moved practices immediately. I feel really sorry for the well-meaning vets who work for practices owned by IVC Evidensia and similar companies. I’m sure they want to do their best to help animals but they have no control over the inflated prices they are expected to charge. My message to you is to do your research before you sign up with a veterinary practice. Ask them if they are owned by one of the big companies. Check their website - it is often in the small print at the bottom of their home page. See whether they provide costs for common procedures and compare prices between vets. Above all, try and find an independent vet if you can. They deserve our support, not the private equity firms that now own many of the countries’ vets.

I have lost two dogs in the last 6 months. It has been so very difficult and emotional. All the staff at Summerhill have been kind, thoughtful and supportive throughout. When I arrived with my new puppy they were truly please for me. Great team of people.

Great vets who looked after our 8 year old Sprocker. Our Sprocker got ill whilst visiting the beach in Wells-next-the-Sea. He deteriorated rapidly from initial sickness and we were very fortunate to be able to get into see an emergency vet for treatment. Diagnosis at consultation did not look favourable for Rufus, but with intervention and a great team, he was treated for salt water ingestion (he was playing with a ball in the sea and managing to not catch it repeatedly and ending up taking mouthfuls of water in each time) Fortunately today, his levels have stabilised after intervention and we have just taken him home. Thank you to the entire team! Love and hugs xx

This is not our usual vet as we are not local, and used in an emergency, but we wish it were. The out of hours service was second to none. From the first phone call to the end of treatment we received an immediate and impressive service and were kept informed throughout. Being allowed to visit whilst our dog was being treated & monitored, receiving phone calls through the night was such a peace of mind. I’ve never experienced such good service from a vet. I’d highly recommend.

Summerhil vets are fantastic, they are always so friendly and helpful all throughout the practice. They are also always so affectionate with the animals that I can be so confident when taking my dogs knowing that they will be so well looked after. My dogs are not even scared to go to the vets now they are at summerhil and I think that is such a testament to how great they are

Great vets, treating my dogs like they are their own. Four stars because of the hard sale of vet plan which seems to have eclipsed sensible affordable veterinary treatment across the industry.

The staff are always very friendly and caring. They explain everything well and make sure you know what is going on. They have lots of staff who specialise in lots of fields of animal care. I’ve taken all my pets to them and have been a client of theirs for over 15 years.

Everyone is super friendly and kind at Summerhill. They have been our pets medical carers for nearly 25 years and we are so happy with them in every area of care that we've been to them for. We would never consider any other vets for our pets.

What a lovely, caring place. Had to take my spaniel there when he got a shard of shell in his paw while running on the beach last Saturday morning. Saw us straight away, fixed the problem and Freddie was back having fun on Brancaster beach next day. Very nice receptionist too.
