We went for a celebration dinner there and really enjoyed it. Food was lovely, even catered to gluten free dietary requirements with ease. Service was great despite being incredibly busy. Thank you

Try to visit here once per month for breakfast. Proper, locally sourced foods & cooked to perfection. I have had a couple of evening meals here too which were great but for some reason, its not been a regular visit for those. No fault of the restaurant, its just theres so many places to choose from locally (including several others owned by the same chain; Colchester Inns)

Just returned from spending the weekend at this lovely old character hotel. As it’s really old the building has lots of character. They welcomed our dog Betty which was lovely. The room we had was really clean and all linens beautifully white. The weather was really lovely so we ate our main meals outside in a large heated type of gazebo/marquee which had its own bar. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the food was beautiful and please be warned, quite large portions! Breakfast was just as good with plenty of choice. We loved the village where we could walk Betty around the church yard where we met some lovely people. We then discovered about half a mile down the road was a park where Betty could do her zoomies! No fast food just lovely cafes, bakeries and places to eat. We loved it so much we’ve booked again for next year.

Went with friends for an evening meal.. I think I can honestly say I had the best fish pie that was ever made! It was to die for!! The service was efficient, friendly and fast. The atmosphere was great too. Will definitely return!!

Stopped for a drink and the menu looked nice so ended up having a starter! Nice place with a nice view if you sit out the front - can watch the world go by. Friendly staff and served fast at the bar for drinks - table service for food. I had pineapple juice which I am glad was sunpride - only the best !

Absolutely love this place. ALL food was amazing, staff was super polite and went above and beyond what we asked. They quickly fitted us on a table even though they were very busy. Definitely reserve a table if you can. Good variety of drinks and the locals were all very nice too.

Visited 19/12/22 13.00 We only had food and drink but it was very good, especially the steak and ale suet crust pudding which 2 of us had. That was the nicest suet pastry I have had it was light not stodgy and the meat filling was tender, tasty and moist my friend agreed, don’t change a thing. Everyone else also enjoyed their meals the portion size was good. We sat outside in the marquee which had heaters as we had a dog and the bar was busy. The staff were all really friendly and helpful, it was a nice Tuesday lunch . The prices weren’t cheap, £17 average but in the present climate you can’t expect to pay a fiver for a decent lunch. We didn’t have deserts as we were full.We will be returning and I would recommend it to anyone especially if you like steak and ale suet crust pudding .

Went for our Christmas bash, just eating from the normal menu. I was not disappointed with the food, big portions and top quality. The waiting staff were polite and attentive, no mean feat considering the place was packed. I would definitely recommend eating there, priced at about mid range for pub food but definitely above standard for quality and quantity. I came away feeling very satisfied.

Quite nice atmosphere but appalling food. If the portions are big, the quality is bad. One of the worst meal I ever had. And expensive too. I had skate but it was burnt on the top side, tasteless. The vegetables were not cooked. No flavour. No style in the presentation. Just a big blob of food. And what my husband and parents in law ordered was of the same level. Big portions but either burned or like a mass of gooey stuff. A good advise, avoid this place!

Stopped for Sunday lunch after a ride on the Marriots way. Food was beautiful and freshly made, portions are massive. It was really busy and they fitted us in with no trouble. Great service and friendly staff.
