Heavy dust air, had trouble breathing and coughed worser everyday. Had to go outside often for fresh air. No service, no hot water, no space.
I really wish people wouldn't stand at the entrance and smoke. I don't want to walk through cigarette smoke and then have my clothes stink of smoke. This is the second time in a row I've wanted to come in but turned around when I saw the smoker welcoming party. This time I tried to go in from the back door but it was locked.
The rooms were horrible, the carpet was gross, and the shower was a communal shower for the whole place. The shower didn't even hang up. There was a horrible smell throughout the place. The customers were really noisy and rowdy, and the toilet wasn't fitted to the floor. I do believe this could have been some kind of hostel for immigration and it's definitely not a greene king pub anymore..... The bar staff were lovely and helpful but both were new, Jazz was very helpful, showed us the rooms and got us some drinks. All in all, though, it was a very poor experience, and we never got a good clean night's sleep, which is all we needed.
Horrid, disgusting and broken - avoid! Ive never experienced a more horrid stay, carpet like it was from the 1940s, stains everywhere on bed and shower, no soap, no towel but a floor one, smelt strongly musty, broken TV and broken furniture. It was an emergency booking but horrid. No overview of the place, just given keys in a rowdy bar laddish bar downstairs, so ended up with no breakfast! Awful place and awful vibe.
We stayed for one night, for a friend’s party in nearby Clifton. Though the room was spacious, it was extremely dated and tired looking. Our door did not shut properly. The bed was comfortable. No hairdryer in the room. The bathroom was absolutely awful. Tiny…almost like a tiny pantry. The toilet was loose, the whole pan was almost lifting from the floor. The shower tray was filthy, as was the shower curtain. We both refused to shower there, due to how bad it was. There was a vent in the bathroom which we could not switch off at all, resulting in a very bad night’s sleep. There were 2 towels in the room, which were not even bath sized….no hang towels at all. We raised these issues with a member of staff, and were approached on check out by a manager, who said she would look into the issues. There is no way on earth that toilet had come away overnight, nor had that shower been cleaned in weeks, it looked like. The pub itself was very rough and rowdy, with people swearing and shouting at the top of their voices. I have no problem with cheaper accommodation, but this was ridiculous. £78 for one night’s stay…to be honest, I don’t think I would even have paid £8. Sorry, Bird in Hand, but basic cleanliness and a lockable door is the very LEAST one can expect. Will not be returning.
Roast dinners are beautiful so tasty all home made . Rooms are reasonably priced and clean! Highly recommended. The staff are lovely people. Would deffo come again
Not a great ale experience. only one ale, rather flat. Friendly people but don't really do ale.
Room very small old fashioned, sink in corner, towels on top of wardrobe were covered in dust windows filthy, an opened pack of butter and an empty bottle of Bacardi in wardrobe, milk tea and coffee & two very small cups on top of draws, no sugar. We were thankfully only there two nights, no replacement of tea coffee or milk for 2nd night. Corridors to our room area's with no lights, others area's very dim light. would definitly would not recommend.
Stayed at the Bird in hand In June 2022 (Liam Gallagher), the owner was very accommodating and very helpful throughout our stay. Couldn’t really complain at the price of £50 a night for 2 people, felt we got exactly what we needed. The bar downstairs had entertainment on the Friday evening which was very good, will be looking to stay here again in February
Great relaxed night with live music. Food was available. The setting is a traditional pub with garden. The atmosphere is relaxed, drinks and food were very reasonably priced ..the music was exceptional.. I can't wait to revisit this place
