Lovely cosy pub. Been here a few times for Sunday lunch and the food is amazing. Very good service. Parking is limited though

A very disappointing Saturday evening. We booked our usual table for the last Saturday before Christmas to celebrate a birthday. The 3 of us have eaten regularly at The Bugle over the last 4 years but were left very unsatisfied. Since the majority of the waiting staff and previous managers have left, the whole dining experience has gone downhill. We started the meal with some bread and halloumi to share between the 3 of us and when this was brought out I asked the waitress if we could have some small plates, not an unusual request! The reply I received of 'do you want one each?!' seemed rather strange! As one of the diners is a vegetarian the menu is always very challenging as there is only ever one choice under 'mains' for any non meat/fish eaters. My husband ordered a burger and I had fish and chips. Our friend ordered the spinach and ricotta fritters being the only vegetarian main meal. The burger was fine and so was the fish and chips, all pretty standard 'pub grub'. The spinach and ricotta fritters in a tomato sauce with carrot and barlotti beans was tasteless and such a small portion for the £18.00 price tag. The fritters were in fact like meatballs, totally not what was expected. Our friend ate his meal as he was hungry but when asked if the meals were ok, told the waitress that it was tasteless and not what was described on the menu. The waitress replied by saying that ricotta and spinach is pretty tasteless ..... so that's probably why it didnt have much flavour!!! Our friend asked if he could discuss with the cook. To be fair the cook came out and explained what the meal consisted of and did apologise. At no point did the manager come over and make any comment or apologise! Our friend after feeling very underwhelmed by his main course decided to have an affogato coffee with side of ice cream and amaretti biscuits. When it was delivered by the young waitress, the comment of 'would you like a spoon' left us astonished ....... I suppose it could've been sucked through a straw!! When we asked for the bill there was no mention of an apology. The vegetarian meal had been taken off the bill which was a shock to us as we are not people who expect free meals but it would've been nice for the Manager to have attempted to rectify the situation when he came over to get the bill settled. Not once did he speak about the deduction on the bill or comment saying 'I'm so sorry, I hope it didn't ruin your evening' Would we return? At the moment with the staff as they are, it would be a no. There is one waitress who has been there a while and she was proficient with a few slip ups but it seems that the new staff have had very little, if any training. It's such a shame as this pub used to be faultless with both great food, good portions and fabulous staff who ensured you had a great evening. We could go to one of the many chain eateries for a similar meal but with more choice and better service and next time we probably will!

Great little find, staff amazing, made us very welcome, could not do enough for us. Food fantastic and breakfast in the room was a lovely touch. Would highly recommend.

Really disappointed! We used to live here & the bugle was our local which we frequently visited 2-3 times a week. Since we moved out the village it was still our go too however tonight was so bad it has put us off! When we arrived they had to lay a table for us but while we waited for a table to be set no one offered us a drink. We was seated, waited 15mins before anyone even asked if we wanted a drink. Wrong drinks brought out to wrong table! Watched waitress try to explain to another waitress (4 times) who didnt speak best english what was wrong with the drinks before she understood and corrected them. No straws when i asked. Starter brought out but was for another table so taken away again. Starter was burnt. One main was swimming in red wine sauce looked awful. Partly eaten. Other main was soggy & tastless. 3 mouthfuls eaten and rest left. Waited 20mins before anyone came to take plates away. I fedback issues with why i didnt eat the meal was ignored. Asked for the bill. 10mins later brought dessert menus instead! Finally got bill, waited 15mins and ended up going to bar to pay as there was 5 staff stood at bar doing nothing. Also didnt remove the meal that wasnt eaten! Poor atmosphere, food not as good as before, service is appalling! Used to love this place the managers & staff were incredible but now its lost its spark!!

Had a delicious meal on Saturday steak cooked to perfection. Amazing crumble for dessert. Staff really friendly. Stayed the night beautiful clean rooms. Breakfast in the morning was stunning. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Can't wait to come back when we are visiting again.

Dining at the Bugle is a treat. I've booked a table at The Bugle a few times, the food and the service are excellent. My favourite has to be the Bugle Hand Crafted Burger the skinny fries are super tasty. The only drawback about The Bugle is the parking, if you are able bodied this shouldn't be a problem there are places to park around the village, however if you are a blue badge holder you might struggle finding a parking bay. The Bugle is a lovely place to eat and drink, well worth a visit.

Great food, beautifully presented (my wife wasn't quite so enamoured hence 4 star). Professional service. Was quite cold in the restaurant but was a very cold winters night. Comfortable bistro pub. Small car park.

Was a little apprehensive when booking due to 2 hrs time slots, but needn't have worried, although busy the 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the ambience. Staff friendly and helpful and food was excellent and we went over our 2 hours!!..An ideal meet up place for us as its half way between our homes so we shall definitely go back.

We came for a Sunday roast and came with two dogs, the roasts were decent but quite pricey at £18 each. We asked for small scraps of meat for the dogs, but were shocked when we received the bill where we were charged £10! We queried it at the end and the staff member agreed it was a lot, but showed no interest in resolving the matter.
