NB. Very important: if you order anything that includes toast make sure you tell them to not burn it. Completely agree with John Millar's review - no idea why it was voted 'second best' in the UK, I know several within a mile of where I live that should come above it. I suspect the vote was fiddled somehow. Regardless, it's obviously popular but probably due to lack of competition in the area as it's really quite average.

Was recently voted second best cafe in the UK. No idea why. The place is ok, but nothing is above average or outstanding, not the location, the view, the food, the decor or the service. All average. Not bad, just normal.

Amazing scones! Delightful independent cafe. I had a fruit scone and my friend had banana and caramel. Lovely texture and flavour. Staff knowledgable about their menu and really helpful. Spotlessly clean too. Time to make this a regular spot!

LOVED IT! It has a really cosy quiet feel to it that just adds to its general charm. The lady was really nice to my friends and I and their milkshakes are to die for.

We had quick, friendly service with detailed and enthusiastic description of the Today's Specials, these were also personally recommended by the waitress along with the popularity of these that morning with other customers. The cheese and ham hot pastry bake was delicious! The cream of mushroom as well as the bacon and mayo chicken club sandwich were delightful. Next time I will have a slice of cake too! Lovely, lively but peaceful cafe with very good food and excellent coffee. We had often visited this cafe when it was under the previous ownership - it is now one of the best in the area with great staff and a great welcome. Thank you to a great local independent business - support them and keep our community thriving.

Writing from the cafe because so blown away by how lovely it is here. Staff were very happy to explain vegan options and so friendly. Vegan scone and vegan cinnamon swirl were both delicious. Small vegan savoury menu available too. Will definitely be back.

The Scotsman is the best way to start your day or brighten any part of the day! Busy & cosy inside but service was great.
