   I gave Ocean Garden a try as they are the highest rated fish and chip shop in the Reading area, and they certainly didn’t disappoint - excellent food and service and good value. Perfectly cooked crisp chips which look to have been hand cut. A good size piece of quality cod cooked freshly to order with a really nice crisp batter. Fish and chips at its very best. Cod, chips and mushy peas cost £11.50 (cash only) and the portion sizes were good for the price. A real little hidden gem of a chip shop that looks like it hasn’t changed in years - and I hope it doesn’t change any time soon either. Highly recommend even if it’s out of your way - the food is well worth it and I will definitely be back when in the area.

   The queue can be out the door at busy times. The owners are very nice to talk to if you strike up a conversation with them. Parking can be a bit of a hassle as spaces are limited because there are several other food outlets, pizza, Chinese (I have reviewed this one), Indian restaurant/takeaway that share the free parking. Reasonable prices. I like their chips.

   We've been on the hunt for a nice meaty battered fish in the area for a while but never tried Ocean Garden. It's very good and probably the best in Tilehurst. It's a small chippy but very popular. Visited during COVID and had to queue outside and then discovered it's cash only when I got to order. But my order was taken and I had time to get cash from a ATM whilst the food was freshly cooked. As it freshly cooked it's nice and hot, the portion size is pretty big and the food is delicious. Recommended.

   My husband and I have not had fish and chips for a long time. We always use to go to Ocean Gardens and decided yesterday to treat ourselves to lunch. We went back to Ocean Gardens. My husband was greeted back like an old friend. The fish and chips were amazing! All cooked fresh, so piping hot and the most crispy, golden batter! Yum, yum, yum!! One of the best fish and chips in the south of England. See you soon!
