Bierhaus in Reading is a delightful slice of Germany tucked away in Broad Street Mall. This authentic German pub delivers a robust experience with its hearty cuisine and stellar beer selection. The classic schnitzel is a standout—generously portioned, crispy, and served with sautéed potatoes, though some might miss the traditional sauerkraut or a lemon wedge to cut the richness. At £17, it’s a fair deal for the size, but a proper steak knife would elevate the experience. The menu also boasts other Bavarian staples like bratwurst and currywurst, with vegetarian options ensuring inclusivity. The beer selection is the real star, offering premium pilsners, wheat beers, and steins of Erdinger or Dortmunder Union that transport you straight to Munich. The atmosphere, with its Semperoper Dresden-inspired décor, feels lively yet cozy, perfect for catching up with friends. Service is quick and friendly, though some reviews mention occasional staff brusqueness. Conveniently located near the Hexagon, it’s a 10-minute stroll from the station, making it an ideal pre-show stop. Despite minor gripes about cutlery or inconsistent sides, Bierhaus delivers a satisfying taste of Germany with reasonable prices and a warm, inviting vibe. A must-visit for beer enthusiasts and schnitzel lovers alike.

We had never been here before and didn't know that it was here found it on a Google search. We booked a table prior to attending. When we entered we received a very good welcome and I think it must have been the owner. They asked if we needed any help with the menu or anything else. You go upstairs to the tables and the stairs are a little steep and my wife uses a walking stick but she did get up there okay but coming down i think a hand rail would have helped. You have to order at the bar and that is not a problem and the bar staff were very good. There was a bit of a wait as the food was cooked from fresh, but the portion sizes huge and the food was very good and tasty

Insane portion. Enough for 3. Crispy pork cutlet paired with creamy mushroom. Vinegary salad and hidden potato rings below. Unbelievable £18 with no service charge.

The staff were very friendly, the place was comfortable, and the prices were reasonable. The pork chop portion was quite large. The chicken wings weren’t to my taste because the meat was too tender and nearly fell apart.

Absolutely love the food here. I used to live in Austria and always miss the food, so it's amazing to finally have the option to eat a schnitzel! Great value for money as well as the portions are pretty big. They also have great vegan options. Only wish delivery is more readily available!

Great selection of beer and food. Portion sizes and pricing is fantastic value. The food itself is of great quality. Not the best selection for vegetarians, something to keep in mind. Lighting is a bit too dim...but that's a small thing in the grand scheme of things. Good for a night out/catch-up or whatever.

First time in there have to say the beers are fantastic and there range is very impressive but being German I suppose they would be, the young lady serving was very nice and pleasant all in all a nice experience

Proper beer and great food, if you like your German grub (or are curious) then this is the place to be. Be warned, your eyes will be bigger than your belly, but thankfully they offer takeout boxes. I've missed going to a bierhaus since moving out of London, so glad to have found this place, will be back again, and again, and again....

2nd visit here & both have been great. No frills but good honest authentic German beer and food. First time I had bratwurst which were delicious & the sauerkraut the best I've had outside of Germany. This time Beirhaus roulade, pork filled with cheese/gherkin & pan fried, it was tasty but unfortunately rather overcooked on one side which made it tough. Think it was probably an oversight on chefs part as all other meals have been top class. The wiener schnitzel is amazing! I particularly liked the strawberry beer and the banana beer also went down well. Would recommend a visit if you like trying different cuisines, we will definitely return.
