We had a booking for a large group of 22, and the service at The Bear in Derby was exceptional from start to finish. The team handled our table brilliantly—nothing was too much trouble, even when we had a few last-minute changes to our orders. Everything was dealt with quickly, professionally, and with a smile. A special shout-out to Mike and Frankie, who made us feel completely welcome and looked after throughout the night. They were both absolutely lovely—friendly, attentive, and a real delight to have around. They helped make the whole experience smooth and enjoyable for everyone. Thank you to the whole team for a fantastic evening. We’ll definitely be back!

Great service, very quick and good atmosphere. Fresh brew coffee amazing.

Don’t recommend at all. Poached egg was served hard, bacon was black and dry. None of the food tasted fresh and was extremely poor quality. The service was poor and unprofessional and I was told “it’s one of those days”. For £60 breakfast it was disappointing.

Amazing place for a casual brunch with your friends the atmosphere is very friendly and wholesome great place to chill and unwind and catch up over food or just drinks! I’d recommend to reserve a space on the weekends because it gets quite busy to avoid waiting time. The eggs were cooked to perfection and yummy in taste. The matcha definitely was a standout.

Great location, excellent service and nice ambience. Menu is extensive and plentiful. Best coffee in Derby and the price are pretty reasonable. One issue they do have they could improve is the front of house as the 3 occasions we went in we found them very abrupt and unhelpful. Once in and seated, it's highly recommended, especially for the breakfast options.

First time visiting this branch. We arrived at 4 to enjoy the "Later at Bear" menu. When booking I said we were going with my parents, the table we had reserved was on bar stools and right next to a speaker, we asked to move which was no problem for them and even though we were a bit away from the speaker it was just too loud. We were all shouting to each other over the table which wasn't enjoyable, two of us felt headaches coming on afterwards, it just ruined it a bit. I think it's fine to have music on but the volume it was should be 7 onwards perhaps, not even clubs are open when we were out, so yes it wasn't the relaxing experience we expected. It took around half an hour for someone to come to our table to take food order, everything arrived correctly as we had finished eating by 5.15 so quite fast service and it was hot. Food was very nice so would return for that if the volume was down. A few vegetarian options which was great, highly recommend the Halloumi burger (Hallouminati) Toilets were ok, no hot water in women's though. I imagine this place is very nice for breakfast and to work on a laptop so will try it again at a different time of day.

BEAR is the best cafe I’ve come across in the region. The coffees are always expertly prepared and responsibly sourced, the V60 and Brew Board coming with a card describing the origin of the coffee beans used. The food options are creative and consistently delicious. All of that served in a stylish interior and comfortable atmosphere.

Over the past two days we have visited here twice for food & drinks. On Friday we visited for there signature pancakes, have fruit x10 stack & bacon with maple syrup x10 stack. There was that much we had to take some home. The only criticism I would say is that unfortunately they were out of packet, & not cooked from scratch. On Saturday evening we visited again, but this time as a table of 7, for my birthday. This time round I went for the La Fondue Burger with standard House Seasoned Fries. Presentation & taste was spot on, however the burger was over cooked for my liking. All other guests gave good feedback. On a different note, the cocktail menu has good selection to chose from, my personal favourite being the espresso martini.

Nice little place to sit. The breakfast was quite nice. Different flavours. However i do think it was a little overpriced for what it was and I do spend the extra pounds on food normally. I liked the waffle idea so have made it many times at home. I think i would come back again however there wasnt much vegetarian option as I'd hope.
