Not worth of visit. Bunch of kids running around, just a disaster! Friday and you wait to place order, wait for drinks, wait for food.. Wrong food comes.. Pangbourne needs a good, independent cafe. People love to connect and socialise, get it sorted, please!

What a fab cafe. After discovering that we had recently visited the nearby NT property, we needed a place for lunch and O'Briens cafe was a great find. The soup and cheese scones were equally delicious and my daughter enjoyed her pancakes too.

It was a pleasure to meet Maureen and her team today. Delighted to eat at O'Briens on my Thames Valley cycle ride (a delight in itself). The blueberry smoothie, full English with added grilled halloumi and coffee were all very good. And good to see other cyclists there too.

We had been disappointed by the somewhat slow service and meagre portions at our last few visits to Baxters, but this cafe has changed hands so we decided to give it another try. Never again! 10 minutes to be asked for our order, had to ask for water three times, 20 mins wait for drinks, and 50 mins and a couple of reminders to get hold of a bacon sandwich and pancakes. In that time the staff were wandering around looking aimless and confused, checking other orders repeatedly. Only half the tables were occupied on Saturday morning which should surely be the peak time. We saw several other customers leave without ordering or only getting drinks instead of the food they planned to order. Outdoor table was filthy. Towards the end the manager/owner appeared and instead of apologising she blamed her staff, saying they were “acting like zombies” and they “must have been out all night”. Astounding! Presumably it was her who got rid of the previous staff and hired a bunch of inexperienced 16 year olds. Photos show our meals, once they arrived: bacon sandwich with mismatched types of bread and two end-of-loaf pieces (£5.45). And pancakes with dry browned banana which looked like it had been sitting out for a long time with a packet of Nutella (£8.45). This village deserves an excellent independent cafe but this isn’t it, so do yourself a favour and go to Costa where the staff are very friendly and fast.
