Took car in for an MoT and full service, informed the team of a clutch issue as the car wouldn’t go into gear properly. Team passed my car with no issues, didn’t even notice the highlighted problem, and when shown the issue said “well it passed MoT and we don’t fix clutches here, so nothing we can do”. The team did not notice any problems with the car aside from “recommending fuel system cleaner” for £30. No evidence the team actually did anything and an “expert engineer” who said “your clutch has gone, nothing we can do” after pointing out the issue, whilst the car was still on their lot on pickup. Absolutely awful, charge insane prices to do minimal, if any, work.

I recently visited Halfords Auto Services for a major service on my Range Rover. Overall, the experience was satisfactory, and the staff were generally polite and helpful. The service was completed on time, and the team handled the vehicle professionally. However, there are a few areas that could be improved. Firstly, the service-required warning on my dashboard was not reset, so I had to return for them to clear it using their diagnostic computer. Additionally, they were unable to diagnose or offer guidance on an issue with differential/haldex part and advised me to visit another garage. I later had the issue resolved elsewhere, which somewhat defeats the purpose of choosing a well-known chain like Halfords in the first place. Lastly, the major service report could have been more detailed, providing clearer insight into the overall health of the car. In general, Halfords offers reliable service, but with improvements in diagnostics and detailed reporting, the customer experience could be greatly enhanced.

I had one of the most stressful experiences ever with Halfords. I booked an appointment to replace my rear brakes, gave them my quote number which was provided by Halford few weeks before by doing the break test. When I arrived in the morning, I showed the quote again and confirmed the work and they asked me to leave the car. I even asked them to call me if anything was needed but no one called me at all. After 4–5 hours with no update, I phoned them myself. After a long wait, someone finally picked up, and I reminded them again that this was for a brake replacement. They said they would sort it. But again, no call, no update. When I returned at the end of the day, I was told they had only done a brake test. They never called to tell me the result, never sent any report, and to this moment, I still haven’t received anything. I honestly have doubts about whether they even did the test or not. There was zero communication. Experiences like this make me question how they even handle MOTs. How are we supposed to trust our cars with them? I needed this work done urgently before a long trip, and instead, I wasted an entire day and still have no repairs. Never ever going back to Halford again. It may not affect Halfords if I never return, but I sincerely hope this level of carelessness doesn’t lead to a serious accident for anyone in the future.

Extremely disappointed with the service at Halfords Autocentre Reading. I booked my MOT well in advance on 6th November 2025, and even received multiple confirmation emails leading up to the appointment. However, just one day before the scheduled MOT, they cancelled the booking claiming they didn’t have the appropriate ramp or Class 4 testing capability for my vehicle. This last-minute cancellation left me with no opportunity to book elsewhere, causing major inconvenience. What’s worse, there was no clear communication about the refund or next steps, leaving me uncertain about both my money and the work that needed to be done. Very unprofessional and poorly managed. I expected better reliability and transparency from a brand like Halfords. I won’t be returning and would advise others to be cautious when booking here.
