We visited The Shoe as a group of ten for a Sunday Roast. There was a short wait while the staff prepped our table between services that gave us a chance to order some drinks at the bar. We were soon seated and the staff were quick to make us feel welcome and take our orders. We were given some delicious home made bread with very tasty olive oil and basmalic vinegar. A really nice touch. There was a choice between pork and beef and a vegetarian option, I chose pork. There wasn’t a long wait and our roasts were served. The portions were really very generous and many of our party actually struggled to finish ! But it was a delicious roast with plenty of roasted vegetables, meat and individual portions of steamed veg. The highlight for me was the homemade stuffing. A few of our party ordered puddings and these were also good sized portions. Friendly, attentive service and lovely country pub atmosphere. Will 100% head back again for a roast and to try the rest of the menu.

Visited for the first time & we'll definately be going back. Its such a cozy, welcoming country pub that just makes you feel so at relaxed & at ease. As soon as we opened the door, the immense bar and the open fire both were saying 'yes, come in' and then we were greated by the consummate professional front of house assistant manager Scott - what an asset to the business. Lovely table for 2, comfy, well laid out & clean. By the end of rhe meal, most tables were full but no issues here with still having a conversation. The food was faultless and sublime with too many scrumptoptionson the menu to try (another good reason to go back!). Complimentary, everyso soft bread (made by the nearby HomePantry bakery) with balsamic vinegar was provided. When straight to main course and choose their Philly burger with fries and steak & ale pie served with roasted veg and potato & mustard mash...this was the only thing....no gravy served with the pie which we thought odd. Puddings, OMG - an evil liston deliciousness! We choose the chocolate brownie (containing succulent saltanas) with artesian vanilla ice cream and apple & mixed berry crumble (every so light & not over sweetened) with custard. If the pub and food weren't amazing enough, the cost was too..we were amazed that these good sized portions of yummyness, with a double gin and a pint came in at only £69, we were expecting more - even better was there no automatically adding of the 'discretionary' service charge. We we're so blown away by the bread, that we bought 2 loaves to take home. I can't recommend this pub high enough.

Lovely food, had the starters (crab and crayfish pate, scallops and pork salad). Oh and their bread is sooooo good, I’ve never tasted such good bread before. For the mains we got fish and chips (lovely), steak and also the pork belly, altho the pork belly was pretty dry without the sauce. Would def come back!

I happened upon this place while hiking on the South Downs Way; it was a welcomed sight on such a hot day. It's everything one could want from a pub: good food, cold beer, nice atmosphere and welcoming staff. (I just wish I would have asked what the portion size was on the scallops, three scallops for 14 pounds seems a bit expensive). The sticky toffee (not shown) was excellent! Pozdrawiam ;)

Popped in on the off-chance there would be a table late lunch time. Made to feel very welcome, seated menus perused pork, potatoes and cabbage or me, husband had fish and chips. Pork was very salty, but the jue was very tasty. Only one could squeeze in dessert. Sticky toffee pudding and a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream, not overly sweet, just right. Nice atmosphere, very busy but service was very polite and quick. Thank you for a very pleasant visit.

The food here is immense, combination of good British and a selection of worldly dishes. I had the gochujang popcorn cauliflower which was yum to start, steak & chips for main and the trio of puds (sticky toffee pudding, brownie and crumble) which was delicious. Can't wait to come back again.

Had the most wonderful meal this afternoon with my partner. The location is stunning in every way and the pub has an amazing ambience. The food was to die for. Literally can’t recommend it enough. Super friendly staff. You will not be disappointed.

After a great meal here last year we returned again. We had black pudding and pork bao buns to start which were great. The mains looked very good but they are not balanced enough. The pork belly is rich and a little salty and so it needed some more sweetness or acidity, the lamb was not as we had expected. It was described as lamb shoulder but what we had was minced lamb which had been compressed in a chef's ring and roasted, so the texture was not great and the dish with creamed celeriac puree was very heavy and lacked acidity. It would have been better to road the shoulder of lamb whole, pull it and then stir-fry strips of lamb shoulder when ordered which would improve the texture. Great potential for the mains but work is needed to make it more balanced. We also came away with a bottle of their reduced balsamic glaze and bread flour which we loved.

Beautiful pub in the middle of the countryside, next to a river. We sat outside and had lunch, the menu was full of delicious sounding food. We had light lunches but there were also doorstop sandwiches and main meals too. Plenty for vegetarians, friendly and helpful crew behind the bar. Would definitely return!
