   I stumbled across The Windsor Castle (The Temple Bar as it's now known) by chance and was pleasantly surprised to find it had recently reopened. You can feel that “new chapter” energy the moment you walk in: everything looks refreshed, but it still has the warmth and character you want from a proper local. Daytime - relaxed and welcoming: I visited on a Friday afternoon and the pace was spot on—calm, unhurried, and friendly. The bar staff were great: cheerful, attentive, and quick with recommendations without being pushy. Service was efficient, and there was a genuine “local pub” sense of hospitality. It’s the sort of place where you could happily sit with a pint, read, chat, or catch up with a friend without shouting over background noise. Evening - lively with karaoke and a buzzing atmosphere: Come the evening, the vibe flipped—in the best way. Karaoke kicked off and the atmosphere became properly lively. It felt inclusive and good-natured, with a mix of regulars and newer faces getting involved or just enjoying the show. The team behind the bar kept things moving even when it got busy, and there was a noticeable, positive lift in the room once the entertainment began. If you’re after a fun, social Friday night without the chaos of city-centre bars, this hits the mark. Drinks & value Drinks are very reasonably priced—good value for Southampton—and poured well. There’s enough variety to keep most people happy, and prices make it easy to settle in for a couple without wincing at the bill. I didn’t eat on this visit, so I can’t comment on food, but on the drinks front they deliver exactly what a neighbourhood pub should. Overall The Windsor Castle manages that sweet spot: relaxed and easy-going by day, energetic and community-minded by night. With friendly, capable staff, fair pricing, and a genuinely enjoyable evening atmosphere, it’s a great addition to Shirley’s pub scene post-reopening. Best for: a chilled daytime pint, or a fun, sociable evening (especially if you’re into karaoke). Would I return? Absolutely—both for an unhurried afternoon and for another lively Friday night.

   This pub has recently changed to Temple Bar, so the name on Google is incorrect. The bar staff, pool table, music, atmosphere and pints are all top notch! Really friendly and can see this being a very popular pub when it gets established, definitely worth a visit!

   Not keen on it it right on the edge of precinct and alcoholic and crack heads meet near by. Very off putting. Location location location. I feel this is really in the wrong place as this only attracts certain people that wanna get drunk fight

   Awesome experience. Owner, Markis personally made a gourmet burger and his lovely wife was excellent behind the bar serving me a smooth well bodied Merlot from California. The raffle was a nice touch showing comradeship and true friendships. Ladies room was clean, spacious and fresh. Cindy

   One of the better pubs in Shirley. Pool table (£1 a go) and jukebox keep you entertained. Live music too (select nights). Decent clientèle for Shirley. This is not a drug-friendly pub (a good thing in IMO). Very happy with service.
