Cosy pub with friendly staff and locals. Great selection of ales, which were excellent quality.

This pub was a great find. Happy to have found a local friendly pub with top notch staff and owner. Thatchers on tap and many different ales. They don’t do food but they have weekly pub quizzes and a wonderfully cosy atmosphere and a pub beer garden. Top find in Shirley.

Lovely local pub with a great range of real ales that change on a regular basis but there is one that's always on tap! Swordfish! Nice tasty dark(ish) ale

Wow what a find! A proper friendly pub serving a great selection of beer. Andy was very welcoming and the locals were a nice crowd too. Great vibe with everyone knowing each other. Clearly a popular local spot. If you like beer then it is worth a visit. I think it has just won a CAMRA award for best pub (in area) and deservedly so. Hope to visit again.

First visit here and certainly won't be the last. Attended at the recommendation of fellow Camra members from East Dorset. And how it lived up to their words. Great choice of cask ales and a very welcoming host.

Great local pub, amazing service. Friendly atmosphere. Set back in the streets of Shirley. Landlord and lady very friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

Went along to listen to Lucien. Never stepped inside the pub before. A great good old fashioned local pub! A rare find these days

Best pub in Shirley, possibly Southampton. Hampshire? Could well be. Always a great atmosphere, good beer on tap, and fantastic pork scratchings. The Quiz on Sunday and Wednesday is always fun, and the Christmas draw is worth a punt. Tell Andy that Dave sent you, and he'll ask 'Who?'.

An excellent local. Not too busy, not too quiet, nice beer, friendly staff but, most of all...the pork scratchings. Seriously, genuinely worth the walk to the pub just for them. Down a quiet side street, it's a lovely place to pass time.

Drinks were good value, the landlord was a lovely chap, the bar maid was nice too. However, the pork scratchings are amazing. Smoking shelter, outside benches, cozy seating. Sunday had a pub quiz. And the patrons were not difficult or overly weird.
