Absolute disgrace come for Monday night darts get evil looks from the landlady and sly remarks as we didn't do the football card! Even though there's 20 blokes buying drinks all night on a quiet Monday! Would avoid this pub.
Landlady absolutely disgraceful! Zero manners! Monday night darts = buy your own food! Don't host a dart team if your not prepared to "host"
Firstly take no notice of the opening times. It used to be open until 11pm, but recently last orders have been called at 9:45 and the pub closed by 10:30 regardless if you’ve finished your drink or not. Upon questioning, was informed it wasn’t worth their while paying the gas and electricity to keep the pub open with so few people. Knowing several people who run Craft Union pubs across Hampshire, Surrey & Sussex, this is absolute nonsense. The atmosphere is on par with an empty broom cupboard. During my visit, I was sat away from the bar, and could hear whom I presume is the landlady speaking critically of the previous landlady to customers, something I found highly unprofessional. I’ve been using the Brass Monkey since the days it was called the Rising Sun, this visit was my last. There are much more welcoming pubs in the area who would appreciate my custom.
The pub is not bad but it breaks the law, there are cameras inside the ladies' and gents' toilets, women have it better because they have cubicles. The men's toilet has it worse because the camera watches and 100% sees everyone who uses the urinal.
Had the greatest Christmas eve night. Music brillant and very friendly staff. Had a Wonderful time.
"THE BRASS MONKEY" IS A VERY FRIENDLY PUB LOCATED ON SHIRLEY HIGH STREET, IN SOUTHAMPTON DIRECTLY OPPOSITE MCDONALDS. ITS A NICE VIBRANT WELCOMING PUB "FULL OF CHARACTER" THE STAFF ARE VERY WELCOMING TOO! THEIRS A SEATING AREA LOCATED AT THE FRONT OF THE PUB AND SHOULD YOU FEEL LIKE A CRAFTY SMOKE" A QUIET CHAT" OR' A BIT OF FRESH AIR THEIRS A BEER GARDEN AT THE REAR! IF YOU HAVEN'T YET TRIED THEM! WHY NOT GIVE IT A TRY YOU'LL BE PLEASANTLY GLAD YOU DID!
Ok place. Good atmosphere. Limited line of ales. Not too expensive. Chilled place to go with friends.
OAPs night for my sisters 40th, amazing night, the staff are amazing! Owner is blooming lovely!! Definitely going back!!
