A really nice cosy real ale pub in the centre of Spondon. Comfy seating outside garden area.. I like the back room bit myself. Very spacious and nice to chill out in. Usual snacks .

I was invited to a social occasion at the Hoptimist, a micropub in Spondon, a Derby suburb. I live some little distance away and so I am not a regular but following my visit I intend to make the effort more often. There were four ales on cask including traditional Bass and Castle Rock.. The beers were in good condition. There a couple of unusual kegs too. Jeremy Clarkson's little creation (we will forgive them that) and a Hoptimist labelled IPA. The helpful staff created a good atmosphere for customers. If you're passing through Spondon in Derby I can highly recommend stopping by.

Good selection of four rotating beers, plus a well stocked fridge. Also sells a wide variety of lilleys ciders and local gins. Located centrally in spondon right next to the bus stop. Serves small nibble by very friendly staff. Would highly recommend. We are here every week.

Excellent little pub with a great range of beers changed regularly. Friendly staff and the landlord and landlady are most welcoming. Shame it can be a bit chilly in there. :-(

Great little village pub. Went last night with friends for 'curry night' and had a great time. The food was lovely and there is always a good selection of different beers etc on offer. Highly recommended.

I Had a walk over from Stanley Village with the soul purpose to visit this little micro brewery and it was worth the effort. Lovely cozy atmosphere with relaxed chilled vibe. Lady behind the bar was very pleasant. They had at least 4 or 5 real ales on tap and a good selection in the fridge for takeaway service. I will definitely be returning.

Finally made it up to The Hoptimist and it was absolutely worth it. Fairly small micropub but it has the benefit of one of the best outdoors areas I've ever seen, in fact the entire place has been decorated superbly, it's modern yet inviting and warm. There's 4 cask beers alongside 3 keg, ciders, wine, spirits and a selection of cans and bottles. The beers were really good, I suspect they have a high turnover so it's always in peak condition. There's no food as such but there's delicious scotch eggs, peanuts, crisps etc, there's also a chippy across the road and various cafés all within a few minutes walk. There's easy transport to Derby city centre with a bus stop almost directly outside, this is the same for getting there as there's a bus stop on the opposite side of the road. The girl behind the bar was friendly and approachable, we felt completely at home dispite it being our first visit. A great addition to Spondon, we'll definitely be back.
