I visited the hotel as a guest for a wedding, and while I didnt stay in a room, one of my friends showed me around. The hotel is very classy, quite well maintained and has a nice style to it. It dose command a high price tag though.
We attended the restaurant for the festive afternoon tea, which honestly had nothing really festive about it aside from the desserts which had a merry Christmas chocolate topper and one was Christmas tree shaped. The menu was underwhelming with and no creative attempt to make it festive. Service was poor as staff were not very attentive, despite the restaurant not being busy. We had to ask a few times for a top up of the teas and the bill. We did not request a high chair as part of our booking, (totally our fault), but when one was available we had to remind them of the request. When we got the bill we were presented the wrong bill, which was from the bar staff, who commented we asked for bar staff for the bill, this was on our third time of asking and we wanted to leave. Given a festive menu is being offered something simple like Christmas crackers or some Christmas decorations could contribute to a festive feel. Parts of the hotel were decorated and festive. Definitely room for improvement for the festive tea.
We went to The Roseate for afternoon tea, particularly as they advertise a vegan option. Their good looking website promised much. We were full of expectation and looking forward to some fine dining in plush surroundings. The food was nice enough, finger sandwiches, and fancy cakes. The service was attentive, with various waiting staff asking if everything was alright every 5 minutes. The real disappointment was the environment. Even though the place was largely empty, we were sat right in the far corner of a largeish room, by a window, on a dull rainy day. The décor matched the weather and felt chilly, with cold colours and plain walls, tables and blue chairs (another cold colour) were nothing special, the bench-seat where we sat wasn't clean, and the wall right next to us was dirty and grubby with paint chips, which really lowered the tone. We also noticed that behind the wall-lights were numerous illuminated cobwebs, which we would not expect from such an establishment. It did not have a cosy feel at all, and consequently we did not hang around after we had finished our tea. This was a special birthday treat, and considering the fine dining experience we were expecting, and the cost, The Roseate did not really deliver. We will try somewhere else next time.
The hotel is lovely, over the road from forbury garden, which is pretty, and only a 10 minute stroll from the mainline traim station! The whole hotel is beautiful but the best part of stay was the restaurant, the food was so good, everything we had was tasty and fresh. That's plenty to ask for but then the restaurant staff take it up another notch, they gave us an outstanding level of customer service, attentive, professional and friendly. We thoroughly recommend trying the restaurant out, at the Roseatte. If you haven't been already you're missing out :)
One of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in for some time. The kindness and helpfulness of the staff is one of the outstanding qualities of his hotel. The breakfast is on par with most Michelin star restaurants. We stayed in a suite in the House Building. Quality of the furnishings, the style and the cleanliness were exceptional. . Everything was chic but luxurious . I am now looking for reasons to return to Reading so I can stay here again .
I have stayed in a lot of hotels but this hotel is the best, most special place where the team go out of their way to make you feel special. That goes for every guest. The buzz and atmosphere between staff and guests is electric. You can really tell the staff love their jobs and love making people happy. I can’t say enough good things about every department. The hotel runs like clock work and every person who works here plays a part in that and it is not lost on me. Thank you for the experience of a lifetime.
After many trips with our daughter to Reading University we may have just found our perfect hotel. Conveniently situated in easy walking distance for town centre and a short drive to University this hotel is comfortable, welcoming with a little luxury added for good measure.
Helpful, friendly and incredibly courteous staff. Rooms have nice touches like a fridge with fresh milk and bottles of water, wireless charging for phones and TV that actually works! Breakfast was lovely. My first stay last night and now my preferred hotel in Reading.
The reason for our stay was a business event. The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings so we enjoyed a nice walk the following day. Overall the whole experience was excellent. Our room was clean, big, extremely comfortable bed, lovely bathroom. Including complimentary tea, coffee biscuits and water. The food in the restaurant was amazing and the staff were courteous, polite, friendly and attentive.
My business partner and I had the most amazing afternoon tea at The Roseate Reading. There was a pianist playing which created a perfect ambiance. The staff are friendly and attentive, the decor is luxurious and the afternoon tea itself was delicious. You can pop in when passing for a coffee/tea stop and drink in this lovely venue.
