As a lone female traveller, they really could have done better than allocate me a ground floor room with windows facing an empty car park to the rear. The room was overly hot - sauna like - and therefore really didn’t want to open windows - although they did have security bars. Come on guys really! Think of your clients. Was given a warm welcome but it didn’t feel like a hotel reception- no uniform of any staff - felt more like collecting a key for a locker than a room. Would like to thank them for looking after my suitcase the next morning as my train was not until 4pm. Didn’t eat at hotel so couldn’t comment on food.

⭐ 1-Star Review (should be able to do 0 stars) This was, without exaggeration, the worst “afternoon tea” I’ve ever had. I booked this afternoon tea based on the beautiful photos online, but what we received was nothing like the picture. The food was bland and obviously all shop brought; sandwich fillers, scones, cookie, mini cupcake and the smallest brownie I've ever seen. We was also never asked if any allergies. To make matters worse the service was shockingly poor: staff were unhelpful and when we tried to raise our concerns, the manager was openly rude. Rather than taking any responsibility, they blamed everything on a third-party provider and never once apologised. We had brought the afternoon tea for 4 for our mum's birthday present, luckily buying through Wowcher which I imagine saved us money than buying officially. We are now having to book an afternoon tea elsewhere to make up for such a poor food choice. Overall, it was a thoroughly disappointing experience from start to finish. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant afternoon tea. The only positive was there was lovely music in the room.

We arrived to be told that having booked a suite there was no heating in the rooms and the lift we could only use to go up and not come down . Don’t ask !! The room was cold , the carpets dirty and cobwebs everywhere. We left to go out for food leaving the electric heaters on and returned to no power at all in the room . All this for £340 for 2 nights They couldn’t fix it , didn’t offer us another room until we challenged it. Had to get a letter so we could challenge with the booking provider and not even any headed paper to do this on. We left and checked into the local premier inn , which was warm , clean and super inviting at a third of the price

Positives Free parking available outside hotel only 5 spaces though but you do get discount for car park over the road which is a secure car park. Staff friendly and helpful Ground floor room spacious. Negatives They struggled to find my booking.com booking upon arrival. Although police enough in check in. The bathroom sink had a bad leak, which over time has caused the floor to swell, which made the door very difficult to open and close without force. Room 2 Wardrobe had seen better days. And the door wouldn't stay open Fire door to bedroom - automatic door closing bracket wasn't even attached to the door frame. So, it's not fire compliant. The bar closed at 9pm on a Friday!! Breakfast was ok, nothing special , food was ok sadly nothing special. Juices displayed in plastic tubs with foil lids and coffee at a station, We have stayed here before, and had a lovely stay so this why we rebooked. I appreciate that they may be new owners. However, attention to detail on some things would have helped, and they could have been more attentive at breakfast. The hotel needs some investments for sure to bring it up to better standards, Old building, yes, but not an excuse to let it start to appear it's falling apart slowly.

I stayed over one night for work, as I arrived I was greated by two very friendly gentlemen who gave me my key at the front desk. I instantly felt comfortable and welcome. The main lobby was impressive it was like going back in time when this was a prestige hotel. Kept almost all the original decor with marble staircase and pillars. When I entered my room I was a little disappointed my air conditioning didn't work so I had to open the window where I could hear traffic all night. The furniture in there had definitely seen better days as well. The bath room was nice but it was a pain to get the plug in the bath. Also the bathroom door had been punched at some point as well. With a fist sized cracked dent. The bed was comfortable and clean which was a bonus. Breakfast was nice in their lounge. Again beautifully decorated and the food was good. Also the service was fantastic. The staff definitely make this hotel worth it but the rooms have seen better days. It was the only thing that let the hotel down.

Way past it's prime, really uncomfortable bed, tiny room, that didn't feel clean and i've seen larger bathrooms on aeroplanes. The only redeeming feature was a nice breakfast in the morning, but couldn't wait to get home.

We had a delicious afternoon tea. The staff were lovely and attentive. A beautiful, atmospheric dining room.

This place is a pure gem! The hotel is stunning, I only ate breakfast and everything that you could have hoped for was offered. Everyone was brilliant and made my stay perfect.

First room given was freezing floor moved and two old fans to heat the room Breakfast was limited choice and when ordering d told no salmon or cream cheese so only options left were full English and continental. Had to ask for juices to be filled up and mire bread for toast.

Really disappointing. Went for a special celebration meal. The leek and potato soup was clearly just powdered and very salty. The main course of Irish stew had 3 or 4 pieces of meat at most. Two of our companions had no meat pieces at all. The sweets were also a great disappointment. To add to the misery of the evening the heating d wasn't working, and no one from the hotel thought that an apology or explanation was needed. Won't be recommending a visit to anyone.
