We arrived with βjust goβ coach tour, we paid extra for an executive suite. It was a slightly larger room, but no extra hangers or storage for hanging clothes. A fridge yes, and two towelling bathrobes (not needed) apart from that it was not worth the extra money. The mattresses wasnβt comfortable and the duvet was so flat as it was so well used. The view was nice, but nowhere to use a hot brush near a mirror. The lighting in the room was so dull with a ceiling light that was not adequate for such a large room. It reminded me of a morgue. In the dining room, there were so many tables and chairs it was hard to move around. The tables and chairs were right up to the buffet, so when people was queueing, it was very difficult not to be right against someoneβs table. Older guests, some with walking sticks were having to get their teas and coffees from a certain area and try and get back to their table without spilling it. I mention this to one of the managers in the dining room and was told that maybe this hotel was not suitable for me. The Food was hit and miss. One morning there were no eggs and I had to wait around. I went back to my table, after a few minutes I went back, there were eggs now, but no plates. It wasnβt the staffs fault it was just so overcrowded and understaffed. I think the hotel was a 4 * but with a 2* service. I was surprised my constructive advice would have been met with such negativity. The entertainment was ok if you were in a pub, especially on the Tuesday evening, other wise not too bad. On the last night, I had to ask in reception if the lights could be lowered in the ballroom, eventually they were. People then started getting up to dance. Obviously wonβt return. The bar staff were friendly and helpful.

Was shocked that residents pay for the privlege of using the hotel car park. The Superior room waa clean, spacious and ok. The bathroom was freezing cold with the original single glazed window, complete with cracks and holes where the putty has dried out. Tepid water, tepid bath and poor quality toiletries. Dinner was very poor abd a great disappointment. Part of my holiday treat was to be a treatment in the spa. Sadly on the Saturday morning we interrupted 3 staff members chatting and cuddling with a friends baby when we asked to book a treatment. We were told sorry we are booked solid today and dismissed from the salon. There was a wedding celebration taking place , reception was backed up and long queues of residents waiting to check in. The wedding party totally took over the stairs, the corridors and reception taking photis. We had to queue for dinner , the wedding party were taking photis alongside us in the corridors, it was bedlam. Staff were extremely stressed. No management directing service during meals. My non garlic mushroom starter was cold and thawing in the centre but overcooked outside. Good breakfast at 7am but dinner was terribke. So disappointed, this was our Christmas weekend get away ! I couldnt wait to get home. The hotel looks like a great fabulous faded hotel of a bygone era. Needs a total review of service and a kitchen team to deliver some decent food. I dont want to stay there again, not an enjoyable experience.

The hotel is dated but comfortable. The rooms were very clean but needs work on them, our window wouldn't shut and the floor was very noisy to walk on. Breakfast was ok but the staff looked overwhelmed at times the main complaint was that the plates for breakfast were very small. On the whole the staff were very helpful.

Brilliant location. Right in the centre of Buxton which is a short walk to get too. The hotel is on a hill and may be too steep for those with mobility issues. There is plenty of parking which cost Β£5 for 24hr. The hotel is very large but very clean. We didn't see dust, marks ect. Check in was friendly and easy. The staff are so warm and welcoming. The lobby is very large and grand and plenty of seating. The building is very old, however the decor and furniture is not. The price of a night stay with half board was excellent. Couldn't fault the hotel. The location is excellent. Just note the hotel is on hill.

Fantastic looking old building, amazing reception, main staircase and bar area, but that's about it, the rooms are clean but the plastic bathrooms look terrible, the floorboards are very noisy, the receptionist was very slow and quite miserable, the poorly fitted and very obvious cable ducting running up the stairs shows a very low level of care for such a great building. Travel lodge offers a better and cheaper experience. Never thought I'd say that.

Beautiful old building which must take a lot of work to stay looking good. Stayed for one night, room very good with a great view apart from the wardrobe which didn't match the room decor. All the meals where very good also. Would stay again.

Honestly? Donβt come. Donβt. Beautiful hotel. Beautiful area surrounding. But there was a lot of issues. As soon as we got here we checked in as it was quite late. Staff was polite (David specifically) and told us where to go. Got in the room put the bags down and went to get food. We came back up with our food and notice what looked to be dirt or bodily fluid on the white sheets. My partner went to complain and the staff again were very nice and upgraded our room and gave us both a free breakfast. The breakfast was actually enjoyable. The coffee tasted a little like weird flavoured water. The main and biggest issue happened at about 22:20pm our second night. After me and my partner had finished enjoying some time together we get a loud bang at our door. And a woman walks in. Obviously us both being flushed this startled us. My partner was naked and I was on my way to the door asking who it was half naked when the manageress walks into our room and is very rude to us asking us to keep it down. I politely say that we were being very quiet as itβs a nice hotel and the only thing making noise was the bed. She told us people thought we were fighting!! I kindly explained we wasnβt being noisy enough for people to think that. She then says we need to keep it down and slams the door behind her. My partner suffered with extreme anxiety and this affected him greatly. After a couple minutes of questioning what the hell just happened he goes down to complain. And the woman acts like she doesnβt care that she walked in on us naked and went off on one. Overall the staff always seem like they canβt wait to leave and some are lovely and some are very rude and barge into your room late at night (:

We were there as part of a New Year party bus trip. Having read the reviews our expectations were low however we were extremely happy. The hotel is in a great location within the town, close to the railway station. The check in was quick and efficient. The room was spacious and had everything we needed.[Iron, board, hairdryer] The bathroom was huge so looked sparse for that reason. We received 2 welcome gifts of sweets and shortbread from the hotel . There were tea/coffee making facilities and bottled water was provided. Some rooms had a fridge. The public areas are very grand and the Xmas decorations were lovely. We received good service throughout our stay ,with only one thing that let it down. The food was always hot and we enjoyed the variety on offer at the buffet evening meals..The breakfast was also good. The entertainment was to our taste and the New Year party was really good. The ballroom looked spectacular. Everywhere was warm ,infact some area of the hotel were too hot! We used the leisure facilities and found them to be similar to many in hotels we have used in UK. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Its an old building with huge amount of character ,its not 5 star ,its not a hotel where all rooms are generic. It's individual and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is having work done and is much improved since the last time we went. There was minimum disruption and the room we were in had been recently upgraded and was comfortable. Breakfast good although the coffee machine was not working correctly. Reception were quick and helpful and overall I enjoyed our stay. We stayed one night to attend a concert at Buxton Opera House and I would stay again.
