Please do not stay here if in any way avoidable. We have dubbed it The Horror House of Uttoxeter - the single most appallingly filthy place I have ever stayed at. Stains on bed cloths and towels, half-eaten pieces of chocolate in the corner of our room, empty snack wrappers stuffed behind the headboard, crumbs all over the carpet, stains in the shower, no soap - we had a shampoo bottle that looked as if it had been left there by a former guest. We arrived in the evening (as booked) and stood in front of closed doors. The phone number at the door and on the sign in the street were wrong, we only got in after combing through an email for the correct number. The room was freezing, but the shower made up for it, as my sister scalded herself trying to shower with only very hot water available. I felt I had to wash my feet after crossing the room. Judging by older comments, it must have been a great place to stay at some time - but we found no trace of that. Except maybe the professional kitchen that must, at some time, have been used to provide breakfast.

I have spent years staying in various forms of accommodation all over the world and this has to be, without a doubt, the most revolting place I have ever stayed. I can't believe I paid money to stay there, the people to whom I have shown the photos that I took, have said that they wouldn't stay there if you paid them. Wall paper ripped, thick dust and cob webbs everywhere, mould, floor was filthy, carpets had bits all over, bed and towels had hairs in them, bed sheets were wrinkled like they had been slept in, coffee cups and spoons still had coffee on them from the last guests, tv remote had thick grime on it, light switches were filthy, hairs and filth on the tiles in the bathroom, no hot water in the sink tap, no hand soap in the bathroom so anyone who used that bathroom would have put their dirty hands on everything, mattress was awful, we were supplied one single blanket on the bed which was meant that only one of us had a blanket to sleep. The "double" bed was 2 singles pushed together. With terrible old mattresses it created a gap between the beds and there were huge dips in the centres meaning that it was impossible to lay together to share the one single blanket supplied. I had to sleep with my coat on. There were only towels for one person too, although they had stains and hairs on them so weren't usable. The lady who let us in did not say who she was or how to get hold of her or anyone if we had any problems. I didn't see her other than when we arrived. The closing mechanism had been removed from the door meaning that the door was not compliant with regulations. We only walked through the communal area but again it was filthy, the amount of food all over the carpet was utterly disgusting. Customer service was non existent and standards were appalling. I don't know how that lady was not embarrassed or ashamed to allow people to pay to stay in such a horrendous place. The absolute minimum expectation is for a room to be cleaned and to have fresh linen but it seems that neither were done. I honestly feel robbed for having paid hard earned money for such an awful experience. It makes my skin crawl every time I think about that place. Please don't make the same mistake that we did. Avoid at all costs.

Perfectly situated down the road from Uttoxeter railway station, plenty of superstores and food outlets nearby, and access to transport to Alton Towers Resort and easy access to Uttoxeter Racecourse.

We stayed for one night midweek because we were attending a wedding nearby the following day. We asked for a late check out to allow us to get ready, Graham the host was more than accommodating. The breakfast was tasty, and ample portion. The location was perfectly placed for a walk around the market square with a scattering of pubs. There was supermarkets close by too. All in all we enjoyed our stay , the only criticism was the room was quite small and tight space around the bed, clean and comfortable otherwise
