Some friends suggested meeting at Mamawu’s when I was in the area. It looked a nice big place when I got there. I arrived early to get some breakfast before my friends came, ordered scrambled egg on gluten free bread. Being coeliac and having a dairy allergy, I always go through my order and do my best to cover off places where contamination or foods which I’m allergic to may be used e.g. saying no milk to be added to the scrambled eggs. My food arrived and the waitress announced gluten and dairy free scrambled eggs. The eggs looked a little under cooked. Ate it and didn’t think anything more. Later that day I had a horrendous food poisoning and have been incredibly unwell since. The only thing I can think is that there was bacteria such as e-coli in the eggs and because they weren’t cooked properly I have been incredibly unwell. Restaurants really need to cook eggs properly because I am now suffering the from consequences. Called the cafe to discuss and no one answered the phone. Disappointed is a massive understatement. I hope others don’t experience what I have experienced in the past 24 hours.

Fantastic place, plenty of free parking. A nice airy entrance way with counter to order at and very friendly staff. Plenty of good sized tables and booth areas so it does not feel cramped in any way at all. There is a good selection of options on the menu and reasonably priced for the portion size. We had a small breakfast and pancakes with bacon with a coffee and a hot chocolate. The drinks came out quickly and the food was brought out about 5 mins later, delicious and hot. The cafe is also dog friendly. Overall a great cafe, great food and great staff.

This is a big airy cafe with parking available to the rear. Extensive menu, delicious freshly made food and nice sized pot of tea. Price very reasonable. This was a lovely find after an 8 mile hike. Only negative was that the waitress serving the pot of tea to the table was heavy handed, resulting in a decent spillage and no acknowledgement other than a grunt and walked away!! Thankfully the food make up for it.

Came for brunch - food was alright, would’ve preferred a larger egg or maybe two eggs for my avocado toast. The flavour was a bit plain so had to season with salt myself. The atmosphere seemed a bit lacking, not sure why…. Feels like the space is a bit too big and empty…. Service was okay. Need to order at the counter.

The Mamawu is an ideal meet-up location and worthy of being called a destination cafe. The large free car park, easy accessibility, directly on the main road, and being easy to spot make this an ideal location as a starting point for group rides. Friendly, chatty, and knowledgeable staff make ordering a pleasure, even for fussy eaters. Vegan, vegetarian, coeliac, gluten intolerance, wheelchair, and dog friendly, it has a lot going for it. There are several tables with mains power, which make it an ideal place to snack and work. It also uses locally sourced ingredients where it can. The food, however, was a mixed bag of delight and disappointment. We both had a small breakfast, no tomatoes, with a coffee that came in at £13.50 per head. This puts it above the average price locally. I will start with the sausage, the heart of any full english. Only gluten-free sausages are available, and even though it is a butchers gluten free sausage, it really did lack in texture and taste and were incredibly dry. Maybe you could consider making a few non gluten free sausages available for the 99% of the population that is not gluten intolerant or a coeliac. The bacon was well cooked and very tasty, along with the artisan bread. The hash browns were pretty standard, as were the beans that were, for some unknown reason, served cold. The mushrooms, however, were a delight as were the eggs, with their vibrant orange, dippy yolks. It had the feel of a busy community hub with people working on laptops, dog walkers, and wheelchair users, all enjoying the facilities provided. Would we stop here again? For sure, but definitely not for the sausages.

Went for a late breakfast and wasn't disappointed. There is plenty of parking to the rear. Find a table, decide what you want to eat and then go to the counter to order. It would be better for your order to be taken at the table. There were plenty of places to sit. The food came quite quick and served on a hot plate. The bacon was nice and thick and sausages were meaty. I could not fault the food. I had the large full English @ £12.50. Will go back when next in the area.

Having been taken there by a friend I have now been back three times. A good selection of cakes and the coffee is nice. They also do hot food, which I haven't tried yet. There is plenty of seating and it is clean and warm, with friendly staff. A good find!

I love this coffee shop. It's beautifully decorated, so it feels light and airey. There's soft music playing, which doesn't impede having a conversation. The service is amazing, the coffee is perfect and the food is delicious. The cakes looked awesome, but I didn't have room.
