Perfect pre dinner meal. Lovely service easily accommodating friend's walking frame. We thought the menu and the food was lovely and a good wine list. Can't believe some of the moaning reviews on here, we loved it
We booked a window table for a 90th birthday months in advance and they didn’t note the request. Ms Amanda at reception got it wrong but didn’t think to apologise or find a way to make up for it, the chair for the wheelchair was removed by us as they didn’t seem to help. Very disappointing. Got better at the table. Ms Amy was wonderfully attentive and friendly. The food is terribly overpriced. The sparkling bottle costs £65 (!)Don’t bother with the starters, small and simple. They must make their burrata themselves, never seen such a tiny one. Now comes the lovely part. The mains were superb. The lamb perfect, really outstandingly lovely, as was the chicken and the fish. That’s why it came on average to 2 stars instead of none.
My boyfriend and I were on a weekend getaway and looking for somewhere special to eat before seeing a play at the Festival Theatre. This did not disappoint. It was delicious food, and the service was excellent for pre theatre - very quick. We are still talking about the dessert - a banana and peanut butter trifle, which was frankly delicious. The setting also feels slightly retro, in a good way. Would thoroughly recommend.
First time eating out before the theatre, we were told it was cheap but really good service and food. We pre booked which I’m sure is the only way you can get served before you need to be out. There is a limited menu but I had slow Ox cheek, unbelievable it was absolutely delicious. The lady serving was very pleasant and the food did not take long to appear.
We decided to eat here before seeing a show at The Minerva Theatre and we were pleased that we did. The pork belly was delicious and portion size was perfect. I had the trifle for dessert and it was tasty but a little rich. Bottle of wine my brother in law chose was Sancerre which was expensive at £42. A very pleasant meal before the show. I
We have eaten here twice before and enjoyed what was on offer. We ate there again yesterday - the first day of a new menu - and would carefully conside whether we go back as the courses were very average. Not up to the quality we have had before unfortunately.
Poor food choice avalaible, absolutely terrible portion sizes. I understand this has a restricted menu and opening times, but to make it obvious that it just churns food out on a conveyor belt without effort or care, is a disgrace, especially at a premium price. Poor effort
Really impressed with this restaurant ! We selected it as the "easy option" for pre-theatre last night, but wow - the food was sooooo good and as you would expect the service was almost instant. Especially like the brill. Now I've discovered this I may enjoy a pre-theatre dinner again even when I'm not going to the theatre if I want delicious food served fast!
Still poor value despite menu changes. Thought I'd give it a go as it seemed they are trying to improve. Starter was shocking, 5 or 6 tiny (overly fishy) shrimp on a chunk of cucumber, looked more like an amuse bouche than a starter. Mains were decent but mash tepid. Warm ginger pudding also tepid. Won't be rushing back
The staff are amazing, quick to the table and always pleasent. The wine selection is varied and there's something to cater for all dishes. The seating is comfortable and clean. Great start to a nice evening at the theatre.
