Ah, splendid afternoon indeed! We paid a visit to The Duke at luncheon and were most pleasantly surprised. The fare was hearty, classic pub grub — quite up to snuff, I must say. Our charming hostess, April, attended to us (and our faithful hound!) with the utmost care and good cheer. All in all, a thoroughly delightful experience — jolly good show!
Venue dazzled us - great food, great vibes, and a setting that practically begs for a return visit. Only hiccup: the kebab meat had a dramatic flair for overcooking. We forgive it. Just this once.
Mind blowing venue which i wasn’t aspecting. Very impressive architecture and decor because it’s church converted in bar. Stained glass windows awesome and ceiling too. The bar guy was friendly and happy to help kinda person so do great service. Happily recommend to anyone who wanna have great time in very pleasant atmospheric place.
Popped in for lunch as opposite cathedral. Truly unique vibe in converted church. Dramatic inside but also relaxed and slightly different. In a good way. Ordered light lunch, plenty of options for all as party had two non meat eaters. Extremely friendly team and food was excellent. Being so close to the cathedral was half expecting the "passing tourists caught out" experience, but couldn't be further from the truth. Pleasant team, reasonably priced, good quality and very interesting setting. Thoroughly enjoyed
Lovely interior. We got there very early for a drink after the theatre, so it was quite empty but still the atmosphere was great and the staff were very friendly and got us chatting about how difficult it must be to keep that beautiful ceiling in top condition :)
Superb food, a very chill atmosphere and the service is first class! We were told the kitchen was understaffed and was operating a reduced menu but the girl behind the bar pulled some strings to get us our original food choice - above and beyond! Highly recommended for a Saturday afternoon lunch and drink, will be back!
Very interesting decor, staff were friendly. Offered amongst the food were snacks which are a bit cheaper than many other places in town - though not actually cheap. The tuna bake I got certainly wasn't pretensious but it was good.
Fascinating old church that has been nicely converted into this pub. When I visited mid-afternoon, it was pretty quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is a pool table, quiz machine and TV. Imagine it gets pretty busy in the evening but nice place for a mid afternoon drink.
