This is a really lovely pub in a small village, great atmosphere. Nice area to sit and eat but also a lovely lounge with a real fire. The food was absolutely outstanding. The staff are really friendly and can't do enough for you, so warm and welcoming. The customer service is wonderful. You just know that even if you went in as a single female you would not be made to feel out of place. They really did make us feel like we were old friends. We can't wait to go back, we loved it. A friendly oasis, in what is becoming an increasingly unfriendly world.

Lovely atmosphere. Nice size meals but food has a special touch of class. From specialty burgers to a healthy venison casserole & veg, from large beer battered cod and chips to Moules Marnier. A host of ice cream flavours and plenty of other desserts. It was loud at first for about 10 mins and I couldn't hear anything but apparently there was a wedding reception in. Then the noise stopped and it was really nice. I'm quite deaf and I could pick up enough to understand most of what people were saying.

5 Stars. Sunday Lunch was delicious and the portion was generous. Their secret is a short menu done really really well. You can tell everything served is cooked in house. The staff were brilliant and delivered excellent service. Thanks we had a nice afternoon well done.

Last Night we celebrated my 65th birthday with colleagues and friends of the Marriott in this great pub in Southwick. Sonny and his family looked after us very well in one of their private rooms. The personal service of the team was fantastic and everybody was well looked after. Afterwards we stayed for an excellent dinner with home-made pies and fraser mussels. The pub was full in all 3 area’s, I did not wonder since it was a great place to be, just for a meal or a drink or family celebrations. Just make a booking to get in. Well done to Sonny and the team, one big family.

Went to the Golden Lion, Southwick for the first time in Dec 2024. I'm gluten free/coeliac and had checked they could cater for me. Nothing on the menus with gf but very helpful staff checked with the chef and presented loads of options. Party of 4 all agreed this was a very good find - the food was truly wonderful (possibly the best I've had in the whole of 2024) and the staff all friendly and very relaxed none pushy service. Hoping to go back in January as been dreaming about the food since.

Lovely old pub with history relating to WW2 D-day planning. The only pub in the village to serve spirits (as opposed to just beer or cider), so was frequented by officers, Prime Minister and President. Good selection of beers, good food menu and friendly staff (thanks to Greg). Southwick brewery is just out the back!

loved the atmosphere and history of the place. was lovely and warm on a very cold winter's night. The mulled wine helped! We also loved the baked camembert starter. The smoked haddock was also very good. some of us had the turkey breast which was a bit tough and tasteless. Turkey can be tricky to cook.

Wonderful pub and staff! Greg and his staff were welcoming and happy to spend time with us despite preparing for a full house later that evening. Greg shared the history of Generals Eisenhower and Montgomery planning D Day in the building where we now enjoyed mulled wine. Looking forward to my next visit!

Such a gem! A beautiful set back pub with the most incredible food. Local produce, super tasty and great prices. The ambience is charming. It is oozing in history and has a lovely vibe. Greg the manager is super pleasant. Very welcoming, friendly and obviously proud of his establishment. Which he should be. He knows the history and openly shares it which is fascinating to hear and to know about. Super dog friendly too. Also great that Southwick brew house is a steps away which also sell great local beer, ales, wine and mead. Would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you Greg and to your wonderful staff for a lovely relaxed visit.

Nice traditional country pub. All the staff were friendly. The food was ok, but it didn't seem worth the premium price compared with other similar pubs.
