I’m still somewhat lost for words, but I’ll try to give you all an honest review & frankly a heads up.. We last visited this place a few months ago & it was amazing. Nice ambiance, separate bar & dining area, great food, lovely staff, a quintessential village pub. So, when my wife suggested a return to the Cob & Pen for her birthday celebrations (with friends), we thought great idea! How wrong we were! Firstly, my wife & I arrived in the main bar area to a queue of people all waiting for drinks. The lone member of staff was run ragged & darted all over the place for this, that & the other! We finally got to order our drinks after waiting for 20 minutes. A bottle of white wine & 2 pints of lager (Foster’s) - £38.50! Our friends arrived later & took their place in a similar long queue for drinks! As the evening evolved, we noticed an ever increasing number of children, everywhere! Running through the bar area, screaming & shouting! The noise level just got louder & louder, with children appearing to multiply as the night went on. It was like a scene from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang where the kids invaded the castle of the Baron 8 Baroness of Vulgaria! We were getting close to our table booking time, so I walked through to what was once a lovely, warm & inviting dining area, to hoards of children occupying multiple tables with their child friends! NO adults at all that we could see in this area, other than an elderly couple in a corner with our ‘Reserved’ table for 4 next to them!! I was aghast & realised that this was now a completely different pub to the one we previously visited & enjoyed. Chatting to locals, we then realised that there was a new landlady…. Who was also the chef, a waitress & bartender (when her time allowed)! We had a conversation as a group & decided that we couldn’t possibly enjoy a meal in this child’s PlayZone. I then asked the bartender to fetch my wife’s birthday cake, candles & sparklers that I’d dropped up earlier in the day as a surprise for her (surprise obviously ruined, once I walked back to our table in the bar area, boxed cake in hand!). We ordered a cab & ultimately headed into town to another restaurant. My wife had not finished her bottle of wine & so that was left behind as we couldn’t take it to the next venue for obvious reasons. It was cold outside & absolutely pouring with rain, we just wanted another nice evening with friends. We got a fusion of PlayZone x Vulgaria, but without the ability to summon the Child Catcher! A ‘family friendly’ pub with the ambiance of an extremely loud & chaotic school playground/warzone! Just awful. By the way, we heard that the other Wallington pub (The White Horse), which once had a terrible reputation was now amazing!!

Just returned home from a family get together at the Cob & Pen. The Sunday roast dinner was amazing. The portion size was huge !! Doggie bags required. Cooked to perfection. Service was excellent, we weren’t rushed or left waiting. Nothing was too much bother for Sam or any of her staff. Would highly recommend it & we will return for sure.

Another very nice Sunday lunch at the Cob and Pen in Wallington. Now under the management of Samantha who has changed the atmosphere of Sundays here. Firstly the music is an added bonus. On both occasions I have been entertained by a Jazz duo who hit just the right volume to enjoy but still have an easy conversation. On a chilly autumn day the saxophone gives that warm and comforting sound that gives the place a cosy air. Sam and her staff have been polite and welcoming with the service being most attentive. I’m not normally into Sunday roasts in pubs but this has been most pleasant on two occasions now with good food served hot and without a long wait. I’ve just had roast pork with all the trimmings and proper crackling too. An excellent sticky toffee pudding to follow. Concerning the wine, they have a wine list which lists some very nice ones. This is a departure from the usual pubs that serve undrinkable plonk because the landlady doesn’t drink it so doesn’t know what’s good. This landlady does. So, all in all two most enjoyable occasions and, no doubt, more to come.

Beautiful pub! Lovely garden with children’s play area. Easy to get to off of the ferry, with lovely staff and atmosphere. Dog friendly, free parking, resident cats. Not to mention the amazing food. Exactly what we were looking for!

Just moved to the local area and thought we would try the local. Lovely staff that made us feel welcome. We asked about bands and Sunday roasts and the staff knew everything we asked. Sat down to watch the rugby and have a pint, great atmosphere. Garden is huge with lots to do for the little ones. We will be back :)

Sunday lunch was great. Large portion, could barely eat it all. I have a food allergy which is not on the "usual" list and the staff took great efforts to ensure I wouldn't have a reaction, even making up different gravy for me. Service was a little slow,we might have had a dessert to share if someone had come back to the table after clearing the plates!

Amazing roast dinner. +Brilliantly cooked and every bit was full of flavour. +Generous portion of rich gravy. +Potatoes were soft and fluffy on inside with a nice crispness on the outside. +Beef was really good - not fatty +Turkey was very good - not dry. FYI this style carrot is meant to be served with skin on and tops & tails. One negative point - Children's play area needs some tlc. Bit of cleaning, put screws fully in, put the mats level and re-spread the wood chips (or whatever they are) around evenly. Will definitely visit again for another roast dinner.

Country pub grub in the town. Good sized portions. Unfortunate they did not top, tail and peal the carrots. Back ground music much too loud and unsuitable for the age of the customers
