Fantastic natural resource and great to see the toilets were open on busy days around Christmas and New Year this year 2024/2025. Thanks to the National Trust team. Hope that can continue.
A national trust property with great views of the Mourne Mountains. A walk from the car park through the sand dunes leads to a lovely sandy beach with safe bathing. Entry payment if not a national trust member.
You can walk hours and hours. See at a distance a seals colony. Is so big that even there could be a lot of people there is room for everyone. Easy. But please check for the tides to make the best of it.
Parked at National Trust carpark at Dundrum and walked to Newcastle through the dunes and back via beach. Safe parking and fee to NT members.
What can I say, this makes for a wonderful walk along the boardwalk down to the beach and picking up the boardwalk further down to make a circular walk back to the car park at the Nature Reserve which is bussling with life. An evening walk is especially worth taking.
You have to pay for this car park or be a member of national trust. That's a walk of about 1km to the beach from the car, its a fantastic place
Good place for a walk. Woods, sand dunes long sandy beach
One of County Down's best beaches. Something for everyone; kids can play on the beach or sand dunes, parents can sit and relax on the beach. If sitting on the beach is not your thing, then perhaps a walk around the nature reserve or along the beach may be suitable. Only fault with this location is the relatively long walk to the beach (it is boarded out) from the car park, but then it is not your everyday beach location. Toilet facilities are available at the car park area, but not down at the beach area.
This is a National Trust car park for their Murlough Nature Reserve. Check their website for the seasonal opening times (it doesn't stay open very late), and to check if the facilities (toilets) are open. When the facilities are open (mostly weekends and the summertime) non National Trust members have to pay, otherwise it's free for all. The car park itself is large and grassy with picnic tables.
