   Unfortunately decided to visit this establishment for lunch today, prices are relatively reasonable and the food is nice however it is incredibly cramped inside, far too many tables downstairs and we were squished up against where the counter is, had people squeezing past us whilst we were eating who were trying to pay, not ideal. Tried to order an after-eight hot chocolate with semi skinned milk however was told that it isn’t possible as it’s from a machine and they use Galaxy powdered chocolate and powdered milk with water. Chose not to go ahead with that as it isn’t what we wanted not is it what was advertised and then got funny looks from the blonde lady owner, who then decided to slag us off to another member of staff behind the till which we heard. Made us feel awkward and didn’t want to stay there. Extremely unprofessional. Other younger staff were pleasant and helpful, shame they have to put up with that silly cow. Definitely will not be returning.

   I've visited here a couple of times, both times were phenomenal, so I couldn't wait to return. The first time I visited, I had gone out of my way to do so because I'd heard great things, and I like to support small businesses. The first visit was with the kids, and we loved it. The food, the staff and the atmosphere were great. The second time I visited was with my mam as I'd taken her to an appointment which was local. We loved it, again, the food, the staff and the atmosphere were great. The third time I stopped by I'd been to an appointment which was local. I had a spare hour to myself which is a rare occasion, so I thought I'd pop in. Downstairs was quite full and is prioritised for the elderly, disabled, people with prams etc (rightfully so). I said I didn't mind heading upstairs, the owner (I'm guessing) said okay, so I headed upstairs, sat down, and had a look through the menu. I decided on a portion of chips (which I'd ordered previously when I visited with mam). The lovely waitress came up and took my order. She came back up not even a minute later to tell me that I would have to order something else with chips and kindly offered an alternative, or that she would go and get the menu so I could order something else. She couldn't apologise enough bless her and she was very professional. I politely declined. As I left and was headed downstairs towards the door to leave, the owner (I'm guessing) was telling her that from now on if anyone ordered anything like that, that something else will have to be ordered. It was a pretty awkward situation to be honest. So, I'm not sure what that was about, but it left me a little bit baffled to be honest. Upstairs wasn't full, about 5 or 6 people, with one solo gentleman eating, so it can't be that it was busy upstairs, and it can't have been that I was solo. Would I have been turned away if I'd ordered just a coffee? I don't know. I've visited plenty of cafes, and I've never been turned away like that, no matter how big or small the order. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an entitled person by any means, but I'm slightly baffled, that's all. This is not a slight on the food, waiting staff/servers/cleaners or atmosphere, which are all lovely, but more so to the owner who decided by custom wasn't good enough. Respectfully, if I'd have wanted more, I'd have ordered more. Shame really, because I really like the place, dispite my last visit scenario. As I say, it's not often I get an hour to myself, or to treat myself. However, please don't let this put you off if you're getting more than one item. The food and drinks are nice, as are the staff and atmosphere. Also, keep in mind ladies and gentlemen, it's always good to support small businesses.

   We are relatively new to the area and this was just an off chance visit as we passed for a hot drink late one Friday afternoon. A pleasant little cafe on the pedestrianised shopping area in Hessle. Lovely staff who were very pleasant. Only went in for a drink, Mocha and luxury hot chocolate which were perfectly acceptable. However due to the cake selection on offer which were homemade we also had a slice of Lemon meringue pie. That was lovely. The menu covers breakfast and lunch/afternoon and looks good. Will go back again In the future to try the main menu as well. If the main courses are good I will update my review.

   Great little place, fabulous panini's and quiche. Staff very friendly and decor on trend as was the menu. Only drawback for us was parking !!! Had to be dropped off as we had booked a table and my cousin had to drive around to find somewhere to park. Of course when we next visit(and we will) we will be aware of this and hopefully it will not be do stressful... If you're in the area, do try this lovely little place .. Village has lots of quaint little shops etc too.

   Awsome breakfast and awsome coffee. Great looking selection of quiche and cakes so might have to bring the missus here one afternoon for tea and cake. Staff very friendly and helpful and attentive.

   This was my first experience of The Black Cat. The tea was served with a China teapot, cup and saucer with a chocolate white mouse on the saucer. I had a slice of chocolate cake which was delicious. All the food on the menu was amazing. The service was great too. Would definitely recommend you take a visit.

   Went for lunch just on Christmas eve. Pre booked and glad we did as it was very busy. Good menu selection, cakes sandwiches, paninins and breakfast. One if us went for all day breakfast while my daughter and I opted for the afternoon tea. This is also meant to be pre booked but they were lovely enough to make some up for us. Not dissapointed, both meals were delicious and served with a smile even though they were rushed off their feet. Bought some chocolate cake home for the other half which he said was also delicious. Good coffee too. Highly recommend
