Staff excellent, however hotel in need of a refurb. £170 for 2 people, 1 night very disappointed. Room 125: dusty, in particular bathroom needed redoing. Air con not working although fan supplied. Bathroom extractor not working, resulting in unpleasant odour from drain. Grouting dirty, bathroom tired, water leaking from shower. Corridors would benefit from a clean (stains on walls etc), frayed carpets. Very disappointing for money paid, much better quality hotels available in Southsea for a much better price. Bar open until 2am however no water available to buy, advised vending machine available on 2nd floor, however to mobility issues difficulty accessing when on 1st floor room. Good location but not what you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express. Love that the hotel is Dog friendly, however would be better if dogs were encouraged in the separate room adjacent to buffet room for breakfast. I am a dog owner but do not like dogs around when I am eating. My mum is not a dog owner and again did not like dogs close by when eating.

Excellent hotel situated in the heart of Gunwarf quays. Very handy for the many attractions of Portsmouth. I have stayed here a number of times and have never been disappointed. The staff are excellent and very helpful. The only thing is they do seem to have a regular problem with the aircon. A minor niggle as they have an abundance of fans for the rooms.

Superb accommodation and staff. Usually use the Double Tree properties but this place is no basis hotel. Great reception staff, breakfast and housekeeping. Best deal here is you park in the Gunwharf Keys car park and it's just £2 for 24hrs. Brilliant base for visiting historic dockyard etc. Get great discount at shops and dining places.

For the price, the location and service can't be beat! Staff is exceptionally kind and responsive. This is an older hotel in a historical area, for the price it should be expected to have some minor issues. The air was out while we were there, the staff had ice cream, fans for the room and beverages available to the guests. The weather was such a fan in the room was fine. The staff absolutely did their best during the situation. The location is exceptional. The train station, bus station, dockyards, and lots of dining options are all just steps away. Would absolutely stay here again.

Usual HIEX offer but the hotel has been here for some time. Parts could do with an update. Service very good. Rooms clean but some are showing age. Housekeeping good. Breakfast offer good as expected. Nice touch to have hot drinks available 24/7. Car parking on Gunwharf at very good price of 24 hours free then £2 daily afterwards. Decent location.

The location is great! HOWEVER, the room smelt like dog. small room if you have 2 twin beds. furniture was broken. Woke up to a drilling sound above my head. I have video proof and pictures to prove how disgusting this hotel is. The ONLY saving grace was the guest service manager who tried his best to accommodate and resolve the issue but unfortunately, this hotel was just so bad that he wasn't able to. The young woman with black hair and long eyelashes was so rude. Had an attitude problem. She shouldn't work in this industry. She gave ME a nasty look. She deserves nothing but disrespect from me after her attitude. Fix your attitude.

Stayed here not long ago whilst I spent the evening with friends in Gunwharf Quays. Convenient location and friendly staff on site. Room was ok with plenty of space and a fairly comfortable bed. AC wasn’t too powerful and kept us warm when it was required. Breakfast the following morning was very busy. The traffic light system in place to give us warning on how busy it would be was a good touch. I really liked the entrance to the hotel too.

Great location for a night out. Helpful reception staff. Rooms adequate, shower room a little tired, tip - they need to use a water trap in the shower tray to avoid the soil pipe venting into the shower room - plumbing basics overlooked in this room! Nice and quick breakfast as always although no eggs this time.

Average hotel. We enjoyed our stay although our location was very noisy with all the bars and music facing us. Couldn't shut the window because the AC didn't work. Fold out bed was very uncomfortable for my son. Quite expensive for the 3 of us but due to it being the only one in this location they can get away with charging whatever. Breakfast was really good, lots to choose from and the staff were also very friendly.

Stayed here with our 2 dogs a good few times this year but not left a review until now. Love this hotel. Very central for Gunwharf shopping, the waterfront and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. However, it's been the happy, friendly and professional, staff who've made this hotel a hit for us. The staff are literally like one big family and they make you feel part of that family. Rooms are clean and comfortable with good facilities. Says "pet friendly" but "pet welcoming" is a more appropriate description. Delicious, clean, fresh and plentiful breakfast - 10/10 (they ask you to score :-)) including attention to details like proper brand sauces and condiments instead of cheap alternatives. The whole team at HIE is excellent. It seems nothing is too much trouble, but I'd like to give a special mention and "thank you for their kindness and professionalism" to Charlee, Dan, Maria, Dee, Lyndsey, Henry, Lee, Sam, Mivvi, Anne-Marie and Peter. It doesn't matter whether you're here for a night, or a regular visitor, the atmosphere and staff are very warm, generous and welcoming. Thoroughly recommend this hotel - 5 Starts. I can't fault it.
