Unbelievable ruin given that it's free, with gorgeous panoramic views. You can climb right to the top, although be careful on the stairs.

This place is amazing with stunning 360 views of Newcastle and the surrounding areas. You can explore the castle grounds and even climb to the top of the main tower!

Little car park and a hut with children's activities. Nice clean toilet block on site. Fabulous views and picnic benches Dog friendly

Stunning piece of history in one of the best towns Northern Ireland has to offer. Free entry, always open, good parking, and some nice hiking around the grounds!

A great castle to visit. Larger than most ruined castle grounds you'll visit, and really well maintained by the local council. There is signage and information everywhere. Lots of the high-up parts of the castle have railings and dedicated access, so you really can explore the whole site. And there are also incredible views of the Mournes. Free parking is great too, and there's a short woodland walk you can take to get to the castle. Definitely recommend visiting it you're in Dundrum.

I'm only giving a 3star review at the moment because there is a lot of work going on at the castle right now. This means that visitors need to be extremely careful when walking around and you don't get to experience the real beauty. In saying that, the views are still incredible, right down over the village and across the reserve to the amazing Mourne Mountains. It is a short but steep(ish) climb to the castle, but it is a bit narrow and would not be suitable for wheelchair users. The car park can facilitate around 20 cars and there are toilets on site which are clean and tidy.

beautiful views and a perfect place for a picnic lunch or ice cream from Brennan's in the village. the keep is being restored until 2023 but you can still walk around the site.

  2. Shannon O'Néill ★★★☆☆

Lovely ruins, but it's mostly closed at the minute. You can access the site itself but most of the ruins are fenced off for preservation work. Will be back when it's open again properly!

Beautiful place, though only ruins. The view from the castle is amazing, although we were there at dusk and couldn't see much, it's worth it. I will visit during the day, because I was very impressed.

Lovely ruin, with great views over the town and harbour. The kids were all very much enjoying playing and climbing over everything, and there's a very nice forest walk if you need a more peaceful visit.
