Walk from Newcastle can be a challenge for most but very doable with granite stone path for most of the way. Views both of Dundrum Bay and then also into the Annalong Valley well worth the effort. Wild horses can be seen in my last couple of visits grazing along the way.

Views are unbelievable worth the climb. Bring water and food supplies ..

Not my favourite walk in the Mournes. Straight up the Glen river from Donard car park. A very busy tourist route so donβt expect peace and quiet. Turn left at Saddle and handrail the wall up Donard or right for Commedagh. Most people venture up Donard so Commedagh is quieter plus the views from the Cairn just as spectacular. Commedagh was a Look Out from where the Celts would spot the oncoming Viking raiders. Isle of Man and Scotland are clearly visible from Commedagh.

I Love this part of the Mournes and is one of my favourite places in the world. So, you can look down into Newcastle (where most people start their walk up Sleive Donard) or look down the other side of the wall, down towards the Bloody bridge trail and Killkeel. You can also see the majority of the seven other peaks from here.

On a lovely clear day this is a SPOT, you see to the South the beautiful hills of the Mournes, to the north Newcastle and the lowlands of Dundrum and further. The wall offers shelter on a windy, wet or snowy day, but get a clear spell and an opening of the clouds...wow
