Once thought to be bottomless, this rare example of upland bog has some of Cannock chase's most unique features. This bog rarely dries out as it is fed by a water table that surfaces in the middle of a reasonable sized bowl on a hilltop, along with many other species you will see the cotton grass and various dragonflies. This area is also reputed to be the inspiration for Guy N Smith's "The Sucking Pit" novel (a prequel to his Walking Dead series of novels).
