   We went to the Black Boy to have breakfast with Santa. The breakfast was lovely. The staff created an amazing atmosphere for the kids and I have to say all of the staff are great. The experience was really enjoyable in the run up to Christmas. The meet and greet, present and photo with Santa was really well done. Also the mini disco after was a lot of fun. Special shout out to Michelle for going the extra mile. Thanks to all of the Black Boy Team

   Lovely place to eat. Food was very tasty and good portions. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely returning in the spring/summer to enjoy the area by the canal.

   Ok, where should we start with “The Black Boy”, visited on the afternoon 3rd October 25. I visited this pub/restaurant as a trip down memory lane (it’s where myself & my wife had our first meal together 25 years ago). It started off fine, service a little slow but we were in no rush. We where shown to a table & there was plenty to chose from as when we arrived it wasn’t busy, so we sat down & ordered a coca cola each while we pondered over a very extensive menu. My wife ordered the 8oz steak (to be medium/well done) with half rack of ribs & a side order of coleslaw. I decided on the half chicken & half rack of ribs & added the scampi option too. It seemed to take a very long time to come, but again we were in no hurry. It arrived & we started to eat but it soon became apparent that the steak & the chicken had been overcooked , the steak was burnt in places & hard in others. As for the chicken it was tough & dry, I only managed to eat the wing & a very small piece of the breast. In all fairness I should have realised this by how dark the skin on the chicken was when presented to us. The two half rack of ribs were wonderful & fell of the bone, the scampi was almost as nice to. The coleslaw wasn’t too creamy & tasted like I’d made it myself, lovely. No one came to see if our meals were fine at anytime & I tried to get the attention of the waitress who took our order (who apparently turns out to be the manager). Eventually I got the attention of the lady who had shown us to the table. I informed her of the food & she said she’d get the manager to come over. She arrived & this is where we became aware that the waitress who took the order was apparently the manager. We explained everything & she went of to discuss it with somebody out the back, when she came back they offered us a free dessert or 20% off the bill. We decided to take the 20% off as we were no longer interested in staying any longer. After a while she hadn’t returned with the bill, so we gathered our things together & headed to the bar where we found her sorting something else out. Everything had been very amicable until now but this is where it all turned sour. She said she would do my bill & I said that’s fine & I would be doing a review. Wow her reaction was to take it negatively & said “in that case I will take the 20% off” stating that I’d eaten the steak & the chicken, when in fact our plates where still on the end of the bar with over half the steak on it & near enough the whole half of chicken. She proceeded to do the full bill & handed it over, but she was shocked when I ask to speak with the owner as I wasn’t going to pay anything. Again she went out back & came back & said they weren’t there, expecting me to pay. I just asked her to take my details (getting out my driving license) & ask the owner to contact me so we could discuss a solution between us. She then proceeded to do another bill to which we paid & left. Upon checking the bill we later realised she had charged us £8 for glass of white wine when all we had was coke. I now wish I’d checked the reviews on this once great establishment as it has very much gone downhill, more so in the service then the food as looked around it would seem that it was only our steak & the half chicken that had been over cooked. Having now read your reply it’s clear you are deluded. I standby my review & as I said, everything was amicable until I said I’d be leaving a review, which in itself speaks volumes.

   Great location, great food, friendly staff, been here on many occasions throughout the years and it never dissapoints. Yes sometimes there can be a wait for food but it's worth it. Lovely in summer to sit out and watch the barges go by. Cosy in winter with good hearty food always.

   I’ve been in the midlands for 23 years now. I’ve always been a visitor to the Black Boy and mostly it’s been decent pub grub. It’s still a pub grub experience but it’s not spectacular. My mate is happy with what he’s served so no complaints from him but he’s in his comfort zone as usual. His mate had the Cajun chicken which he finished and enjoyed it though it looked dry. I ordered fish and chips. The fish itself was fresh as advertised. They get daily fish deliveries. The flesh was noticably fresh and devoid of any smell. And it was delicious. The batter was just too heavy for me. And the chips were tired and should have been retired. See photos. Just heavy and uninspiring. A cafe I go to uses the same sized chips and cook them fresh in small batches and they taste amazing. These didn’t. Even with seasoning. They weren’t nice. Just cook fresh chips and the quality of the meal will hugely improve. Two stars for location next to the canal and one for the lovely fresh fish. Not rushing back but we will return sometime.

   Country pub on the side of canal. Lots of parking. Very large beer garden. Menu is quite large and pretty good value for money. More pub grub than gastro pub. Couple of keg draft ales and the normal selection of other drinks.

   First time here today all I can is WOW!!! What an amazing setting for a country pub, one of the best . Also the menu caters to anyone from pub classics to homemade selection even curry's , you name it they have it. I opted for homemade steak ale and mushroom pie which was one of the best I've tried and my wife had scampi which she really enjoyed . The staff are super friendly even the poor girl who was suffering with a bit of a sore throat was happy to chat away with us. Highly recommend and will 100% be returning here .
