   No nonsense, forget the service or restaurant atmosphere it’s the food that counts and the mix grill was amazing. We had a couple of mix grill, and a Karahi with naans and roti. The mix grill meats were so tasty and succulent with plenty to keep your belly satisfied.

   This is the second time we went to Desi Dera and the food was delicious. The lamb chops and lamb karahi were outstanding. Tried magaj (lamb brains). It wasn't really to my liking but my family loved it. Thank you for a great meal.

   Now here’s a place that’s sadly went down the gutter last I came here was in 2021 with the family I went last night and the service sadly has gone down the drain down the garbage. As I finished up paying for the food I asked to pay by card and one of the waiters lied to my face and said “cash only card machine not working” when that’s a stone cold lie as I went with my uncle years back and paid by card that time and they just out of nowhere said cash only and thankfully one of the waiters was polite enough for me to give me the benefit of the doubt and paid by card anyway. After that experience this will be the last time I’ll visit here.

   Love the food here. Food not only looked good but was really tasty and was made to additional request I made. Everything was perfect. Malai Boti, Kebabs, Karahi even mint chutney was superb (had a few refills of chutney) Service was very good and staff were very courteous. Price wise it wasn’t very expensive. A few Parking places available right outside and some on street free parking also available.

   Whenever I am in Birmingham, I make sure I visit this place, specifically, for their chicken karahi with fresh naan. I like their mutton karahi too but the chicken karahi is on another level.

   Ordered half Lamb Karahi (curry), Roti and some fries. Unfortunately the taste and quality of the Lamb Karahi has gone downhill abit the last 2 visits or so compared to all previous visits. In my opinion it did have 1 of the tastiest Lamb Karahi in Birmingham. Will definitely visit again and hopefully next time it will be of a better taste as in the past. Update visited again. Lamb Karahi has improved from last visit but still not at the standard of all previous visits. Also far 2 many bones in the Karahi.

   Thank you so much Dooina for looking after me and my family. Its so lovely to see such a hardworking waitress with good etiquette in the heart of Alum Rock. Desi Dera should be really proud of a staff member like you. Also we ordered the Lamb Karahi which is 10/10 cannot wait to return.
